Hey, something to consider, and I know you ain't no dummy, but I wanted to tell you something I saw a fellow driver do at my first real trucking job and learned about a moffet and a step deck.
I had a job I really enjoyed driving a company daycab Pete pulling a 48 foot aluminum step. I loved my job, but they went out of business due to the family getting into a battle and splitting up the company.
On the step deck, they built a floor mounted attachment for the moffet at the rear of the bottom deck that you could scope out with the moffet forks and pull yourself up on the back, then you rolled it up to the bottom deck and pulled yourself up and in. The moffet tires were up on the deck obviously once loaded which made the machine and mast very tall. I assume this is the same basic setup you will be using @Ruthless
Well anyhow, I saw the driver leave the cutomer after he unloaded his load, but I didn't know he went the back way from the place where we deliver to get to our yard. He normally pulled a flatbed with a moffet attached to the rear, so it set lower.....no worries. He forgot that with the moffet setting up on the step deck, it made the mast higher than he was used to. He went under a train trussle.....the daycab trucks could fit, but not the moffet. It destroyed the moffet and trailer at 45 mph. The moffet was ripped off the back and landed on the hood/windshield of the car behind him and killed the person following him in that car.
Not a good day. Sorry for the long post, thinking of your setup took me back in time. You dont see a whole lot of those steps doing that work around here.Last edited: Mar 7, 2018

Thank you!!
They did rebuild it. It is now a very nice Casey's. They paved the entire parking lot as well. Still a bit of a pain to get in and out of, but not near as bad as it used to be. -
Wow. That's wild.
Standard is a 12' mast, so I can see just what you're saying. The total mast height is lower than the total rating- but still tall for sure.
Part of my deal is a refurbished one with a 10' mast, which has like a 7'~ overall height. -
Right. Some of the sites we went to, we needed that taller mast it seemed. Hauled ALOT of cubes of brick and cinder blocks. Sometimes we had to get to some wild places to unload materials.
Our area was mostly downtown and residential areas so there were times I couldn't go certain routes because of my height of the buggy. That shorter mast woulda saved me many times
