I have no intention of dragging this out into a debate. I simply meant that these radios are not what they are made out to be. More power does not always mean a better radio. Signal purity is worse and the bandwidth adjustment of the unit cannot be brought into compliance unless running only the required 4 watts. Audio quality of the purpose made CB sets can be had by connecting an external purpose made communications speaker. I would, however, agree with you on one point--the construction strength of some of the Uniden and Radio Shack CBs out there--especially the Radio Shack ones are so flimsy its a wonder they survive use.

i wonder who will put out the first CB radio using SMT ? the 2950/70 and 257 us it and are very respected by those looking for a clean tx and rx . the cobras didnt do so well though . new technology doesnt mean better without proper R&D . i guess ranger/RCI will get around to it sooner or later .

I guess the Pilots that I go into are different?
They sell Cobras, Galaxy and Uniden. Maybe it's a southern thang.K7DFA Thanks this. -
Yes, Pilot sells LEGAL Cobras, Galaxies, and Unidens. They USED to sell "exports"-----------until FCC FINED them $125,000 for selling them.

Pilot, anxious to settle the matter, negotiated a settlement of $90,000 and agreed not to EVER sell the illegal, "10 Meter 'amateur' (yeah, right) radios" again.

Hey Rooster73, please keep this forum up to date on how it all works out. I have been talking to radioactiveradios and have not decided on whether to buy from them or not. I would like to know how your friends radio works out, once he gets all the bugs out and all.
thanks,,,K7DFA Thanks this. -
####! I am new to radios and I just want a powerful one, so when I talk I can be heard and I will be able to hear the other operator for a few miles more than what I get on my cobra 29 right now. Why can't you just try and be more respectable there Bobcat1958? I surely don't want to step on the "hams" shoes but maybe I might if I don't know any better. As far as I know, at this time, you can only set up a 10m to operate as either just a CB or on the 10m band? If I am wrong than educate me, and the others.

Bravo! that is what I am talking about.K7DFA Thanks this.

I knew from the get go that this thread was going to open a jumbo sized can of worms for my buddy.
Opinions are just like buttholes, everybody has them, and from what we have been reading, RadioActiveRadios might be doing some sloppy work.
It's to late now for him though. The only thing he could do is break the chassis seal and open it up, or have someone do it for him. If he chooses to do this, then the RadioActive warranty is void. Which poses another question: what really is the warranty and what does it cover? We were thinking of sending an email to ask exactly what the warranty covered, but have not done so to date.
I told him: "If it works (which it does) then don't fruck with it". He gets complements all the time and is being heard for at least 30 miles radius from what we gather to this point. I keep telling to ask for a 20 in his conversations. I think it is finally sinking in if he wants to know how far he is getting out.
I will keep the updates coming as they happen, but for now we are just reading and pondering.
Merry Christmas to all, or maybe it would be safer to say Happy Holidays!Last edited: Dec 23, 2008
