Man I am having a good time, I haven't had this much fun reading people getting mad in a long time, nothing like this!
K7DFA Thanks this. -
So your eyes are smoking! LOL!

I did not do it myself. I had it done by a competent radio tech that does not clip things during his tuning process.K7DFA Thanks this.

I have a cobra 29 classic and it will talk with the best of them. It is loud and clear. just like the connex. and put out about 34 to 35 watts I hear good too. so I see no need to buy a galaxy. the cobra will with stand a beating where the galaxy will not. this is just my 2 cents.
and the only man that I let touch my radio is WIZARD in Kingsland GA. I have him clean and check every thing once a year just to make sure every thing is still good. and he has never said it needs anything more. he is ####y but he is very good at what he does. and his prices are very good!K7DFA Thanks this. -
Many truckers use the Icom IC-706MKIIG if they are hams. This radio is easily modified for 27Mhz transmit and Icom is noted for having really good sounding AM. Plus you get all of the ham bands to talk on also. Anybody can order one and the quality of the radio is far superior to most of the export radios that you get. They honestly don't cost that much more.

And the bad thing about it is, after studying for the license, buying the expensive equipment, getting caught USING it on 27 MHZ will result in the loss of that license. Like the so-called "10 Meter 'amateur' Radios", they are NOT certified for that use and are JUST as illegal. It is still SAD that people just MEMORIZE the answers to the questions (jist so ah can gits by) and never LEARN anything--which is actually what amateur radio is about. CB is about one thing: simply yapping about mostly NOTHING.
CB radio has RULES for its use. It's called PART 95, TITLE 47, US CODE. Amateur Radio is governed by PART 97 (same Title). Too many people simply either NEVER ever READ either one of them. IF they DID, they would know that the suggested use of the Icom 706 series, or ANY amateur transceiver on ANY other than the amateur bands is ILLEGAL. Any other use requires a license or a FEDERAL or MILITARY authorization. (Military Affliate Radio System, USAF Auxiliary, etc). Sooner or later you WILL get caught doing it. It just isn't WORTH $18,000 in fines or being FIRED from your company. All THIS over a RADIO, what amounts to a silly TOY WHEN IT GETS INTO THE 'HOBBY ASPECTS? A would-be CB ILLEGAL APPLIANCE when a simple 40 channel CB would suffice? You can't convince ME that drivers have a NEED to talk 40 miles away; NO! it's about "I'm the biggest, baddest reddio dude on the road, an' it jist swells up mah ego if I walk over another driver (who, perhaps, is closer and is only trying to find an address!"
PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eighty per cent of the threads on here have to do with one thing: How can I turn it UP? How can I have the 'biggest' reddio? The LOUDEST audio? (Never mind that so-called "technician" you went to out behind the Bubba's Truck Stop doesn't know SH-- from Shinola what's he's doing (clip this, snip that, turn that 'thar li'l screw thar"!
Just listen to so many of the trucks out there now. Listen how DISTORTED his audio is!! OH, he's LOUD all right, but he sounds like ............well, you know.

Glad, just like the hams, we like to talk as far as we can. I like being able to carry on a convo with a fellow CBer as long as I can. This is why we mostly strive for more power.
How would the hams feel if they were limited in power like the CBers are? They would be pissed off if they were suddenly told that they too could only have a total of 4 watts to deal with.K7DFA Thanks this. -
Hey Gladfly, I respect the fact that you licensed operators have contempt to those who violate your space, but I am offended by your postings about us "chickenbanders". I live in the south, drive a truck for a living, and run legal galaxies in both my work truck and personal truck, and guess what: I ain't sum dum redneck wif a lawng southern drawl and a need fer mer power and all them extree channels! You make valid points in all of your posts, but you sure are offensive to us good ol' boys who aren't idiots. While I'm sure you don't care whether or not you offend us, I think you should know that you do.

By the way, to all of you...Have a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New year, from my family and I. These best wishes go also to Gladfly, who has, despite the posts offensive to us "Chickenbanders", inspired me enough to start preparing for the amateurs license test..
