If the person merging doesn't have the forsight to either step on the gas (the little skinny peddle those 4 wheelers forget about) or slow down to fit the hole, then I don't have the forsight to help them get in. I maintain my speed with the peace of mind that I will win.
If I see them coming up the ramp and looking forward until the very last minute when they need to change lanes, then they will just have to live with being stupid. If I see someone coming up the ramp and they are shoulder checking and looking to fit a hole then I will help them out.
I rarely seem to be able to make a lane change to the left with all the 4-wheelers that love to hover in my blind spots, which leaves me at an entirely different rant.
When I merge onto the highway with my truck...I often have to fit a hole where nobody is accomodating. Why should I have to make room for a tiny little car that can fit anywhere? If they can't do that, then they should stay at home.
My favorite is when I'm pulling an empty flatbed, and I'm coming up the ramp and some 4-wheeler starts accelerating because they don't want a truck in front of them. The look on their face when I beat their cavalier and merge is just priceless.

You said a mouth full of truth lilbit..
Lilbit Thanks this. -

The only thing I hate is if you get over to let them in... they hang you out... if you slow down to let them in they brake beside you... if you try to speed up to let them in they step on it...
-
Seems like every one of them acts different. If I've got the room I let them. If I don't have the room I mantain speed and they are on their own.
-
That's the way I do it.
-
And those merging have the same problem -- everyone acts differently. It's not always readily apparent whether someone is going to change lanes, slow down, speed up, or maintain their speed approaching an on-ramp.
-
Yep, that is why everybody needs to use a little caution and common courtesy when driving. And GET OFF THE PHONE!
-
Or a slogan like, "do something stupid in front of a big truck and I'll lose my job, but you will lose your life." -
I'll second you on that, Big Don... and take it one step further...
Don't just stay off the phone, but quit talking to your passengers, put down your water bottle, quit fiddlin' with your audio devices, and just PAY ATTENTION to what you are doing!
