A full day of research has shed a lot of light. And left me with many new questions as well! I think you will be seeing my name a lot on here for a while. I am grateful for everyone's ideas and help.

I would be quite happy starting out with sod. Great idea! The sugar cane industry seems like an option too but I may have missed harvest season this year. Looks pretty rough on equipment too.

Go to the local Social Security office. Request form SSA-7050S4. Fill it out and check the box for "Itemized Statement of Earnings", also check the right hand box for "certified". The info returned will list all previous employers you worked for, even if a long time ago and out of business. This will be government certified proof of your previous experience.

You can also download and print this form from the SSA website. Just be sure to get the latest revision.

It'll cost you nearly 150 bucks, but worth it.

Miss driving? I'll give ya 6 months of 4 wheelers doing an 80 MPH 3rd lane exit inches off your nose, a few pulling out in front of you with it being mathematically impossible for you to stop but they somehow managed to have enough cubic inches to overcome the impact speed, the classic (happens to me daily,) "let me be Mr. Nice Guy and move over to the left lane on a 2 lane so the on-ramp traffic can merge into that right lane even though they had a yield sign which they do not abide by...and leave me stranded out in the left lane now for 5 miles until they exit again,"...

You'll be asking yourself "what on God's green earth was I thinking?" Not to mention (depending on the arena you choose to be in,) waiting countless hours to load/unload, ELD headaches, dispatch woes, and lower than expected wages.

Of course I wish you the best and hope all of that is not true for you, and I pray for nothing but rainbows and unicorns to cross your path. I just have become callous and hardened with time, and live by the old "hope for the best/expect the worst" adage anymore. I look for opportunities to run away from this existence as far as the east is from the west personally, LOL...and I WILL eventually achieve that.

I'm not advocating this, but one time I had a problem qualifying for a condominium I really wanted very much. I was barely under the threshold to qualify. The woman in the mortgage dept. of a lending institution called me to come out in the hallway. She whispered, "I can get the verification you need for $100.00 cash." I gave her the money and she took care of it. She even provided phone numbers and when people called and said they need job verification and gave my name, it triggered the computer to open my fake file and there was all the fake information for whoever it was they called. No regrets here; made a killing renting it out and paid it off within a few months. My halo is tarnished!
My suspicion is, the phone was her private hidden phone and the computer was her secret laptop. I don't care; she helped me when I needed it and probably helped many others.

I want to put this (proof) topic into some perspective. It is not the applicants place to provide proof of employment. Even in most situations this also applies to employment gaps. Some people don't understand this but very few trucking company's simply go poof and be gone. Most are absorbed into larger carriers. Look at some of the top 10 carriers and how they become so. Even in the cases where the company did close up and no longer exists this does not mean there is suddenly a vacuum of information. FMCSA rule 391.23 mandates a carrier MUST investigate a prospective new drivers job history OR document good faith attempts to do so. My advice in these situations is much like my advice is with recalcitrant medical examiners that demand you follow none existent sleep apnea guidelines. Smile, think them for their time and leave! There are simply too many carriers large and small out there that know 391.23 and how to document good faith attempts to get this information. In my personal life when I am asked about problems drivers have this is one of the big three. It is frustrating that some of these carriers want to make easy hard or impossible for prospective drivers. Then use (it's the rules) excuse later. IT IS SIMPLY NOT THE RULES. If a carrier wants to be a horses patoot and not follow the good faith exceptions in 391.23 do you really want to work for such an outfit?
