Hello everyone, good to see the forums are still kicking, it’s been a couple months. Anyhow, I hate doing these lengthy posts on horrible companies, but this is another one I feel it’s my duty to warn the community about.

Been doing the power-only o/o for a little over a year (until recently). Anyway, the authority we’d been contracted to (business partner also has 7 trucks), suddenly closed its doors and disappeared practically over night. Looked into Zelda, saw mostly good reviews scattered about (but nothing of real negative substance) so I rolled the dice and took a chance.

Holy snake pit Batman. I can’t speak for the company-driver side of things, but my fellow o/o brothers and sisters, do NOT sign on to this company. Here’s what the first (and last) 3 weeks have looked like.

    1) From day one, the fuel cards didnt work. They kept making excuses about how they are “switching” cards. “Next week” they said. Next week came, “we’re hoping by next week”. Obviously, you see where this is going. Anyway, it soon became apparent that this was more than just fuel cards.

    2) To get funds for fuel, I’d have to wait for a comdata code, which usually took a minimum of 3 hours (on two separate occasions it was over 5 hours).

    3) They give you only enough to buy 80-100 gallons at a time (unless you’re in Cali, then you can buy 60-75). So if you’re running hard, you have to go through this with them every day (I’ve done it every day for about 14 days now).

    4) My first load got cancelled (not sure why), but after sitting for two days waiting, I had to deadhead nearly 1200 miles back home to get my IRP/IFTA plates registered (new truck) before the weekend, or else I’d have had to wait the entire weekend for Monday. I stopped in every major city on the way home, hoping my dispatcher could find something for me to haul to help pay for fuel. Nothing.

    5) They will not explain how their paydays work in detail (ie “when’s the last/next pay period” etc). I have three emails; each that have been sent multiple times, asking for the same information, and have had no reply.

    6) Two days ago, tire blew on their trailer. They made me wait for 8 hours before they paid for it. Two days later, another tire blew. I am currently still waiting on them to pay for it (after having been here since 9am (11 hours)). Every time they call the tire shop, Zelda has a different request. Either it’s a different person calling from Zelda, or they “didn’t receive a particular piece of information”. I have been through two shift changes now, and have watched three shop receptionists get so frustrated at Zelda on the phone, that they won’t even speak to me. Zelda is stalling.

    7) Payroll is supposed to be every two weeks. Its been three weeks, and I haven’t even gotten a pay statement saying “do not pass go, do not collect $200”. So, I’m guessing, getting paid is probably going to be like pulling teeth as well.

I’ve had to contact the co-broker, and the shipper (who is a very popular/high paying “alcoholic beverage” shipper), to notify them that their freight is going to be at least three days late because of Zelda’s “activities”. Each day, is another day I’m sitting under a load with unsigned/undelivered BOLs, which means I don’t get paid. This load would normally take 4 days. Zelda’s nonsense, will make it take at least 7-8 days.

When I told Zelda that I was done waiting, to get me moving or else; they basically said “go ahead, we’ll wreck your DAC for abandonment”.

So, I have lost literally thousands of $$$ in revenue, and I have yet to see even a single settlement.

My guess is, Zelda has gotten in over their heads in a Ponzi scheme, and they’ve run out of money. Do not believe the lies, or their website. They claim to be averaging $3+ per mile on ftl dryvan. I can assure you, my first (and best) paid load with them, was LTL, 3 stops, averaged $2.10 per mile, was only 900 miles, took 4 days to complete, and I had to unload the trailer myself, because none of the receivers had docks/lumpers.

I don’t believe in bad-mouthing every company that doesn’t tickle me the right way, but I feel it’s my duty to warn people about this kind of company, and that’s what I’ve done.

    Safe miles, and rollin’ thunder,
    The Big Cajun

Wow...Thank you! I run my own authority, but after getting a letter from a recruiter today and looking at their website, I was considering giving it up and changing. I mean...listening to the email and website paints a pretty picture. I knew it was too good to be true and started looking for the truth. Thank you!

Why don't you just go on your own if you can set-up the capital to do it? Furthermore, if i was to stay in trucking, get your own trailer if possible as power only has lots of faults to it. I did it for a time- too much deadhead, junk trailers, time spend returning load-out trailers etc. Sounds like a bad company and the sooner you get out of there the better!

Nah, I don’t need a trailer. I’ve actually signed on with a buddy of mine, and wouldn’t you guess it; I get paid through factoring every 2-4 days, and I’m making great money. It’s amazing how well things go when people are just straight forward and honest.

However I would like to update this post, (and perhaps clarify a few things you “addressed”).

    1) Zelda is still over a month owing me thousands, and they’ve never paid me a single penny. Their fuel cards were/are down, because they ran out of credit and didn’t pay their bill. Also, your theory about drivers reselling fuel sounds great, except for one little detail you don’t seem to get. I’m an independent contractor. My fuel comes out of my settlement. How exactly am I supposed to rip off fuel from myself?

    2) I know of three drivers who have filed against Zelda within the last couple weeks for non-payment and blatant evidence that Zelda hasn’t been drug testing many of their new recruits before putting them to work. That’s a big no-no.

    3) Youre right; I could have “bossed up” and used my own card to buy fuel...and today I’d be several thousand more in debt than I already am because of Zelda. I also could have paid for their customer’s tire, and I’d also have gotten shafted in that too. Respectfully, I made better business decisions than you think I did.

    4) “Rocking and Rolling with IFTA?” What does that even mean? Do -you- have any idea what you’re talking about? I already had my own IFTA (just needed to switch trucks) and I was already managing it with keeptrucking. This has nothing to do with customers cancelling loads due to previous Zelda drivers calling said customers, to get paid, (because Zelda isn’t paying their drivers). That is infact, what happened with two of the brokers I spoke to (as I am now in the process of filing for Zelda’s non-payment).

    5) Uh no, it is between the carrier and the customer to work out who pays “ultimately”, but it is the carrier’s duty to meet their part of the financial duties to “keep the truck rolling”. Just like the carrier is required by law, to pay an independent contractor within 15 days of receiving all paperwork (whether or not the customer pays them). Nice cheap shot, but no, I am not new to trucking.

And if I were to give you a few veteran tips, they would be:

....your typing style and phrases, (“you’re new and don’t know what you’re talking about” and “bumps in the road”), and your attempts to discredit people, are all comical. I’ve been trucking for nearly two decades. I’m sure I can always learn a thing or two, but companies like this, are not the “fault of drivers”. These companies are a cancer to the industry, and they’re why people are exiting this industry in droves, and leaving a massive driver shortage.

Zelda is a scam, and they’re going to have to answer for what they’ve done. My task here, is to keep people from going through the same nightmare I went through. But, thank you, nevertheless, for your well-intended ..... “advice”.
