I'm testing a new eld device and the manufacturer says that shutting the key off is no longer allowed to kick a driver from line 3 to line 4.
In my mind if the engine is off and the brakes set - how can I be driving?
Is this the way eld is supposed to work or do other products work differently?
Shutting the truck off but still logging drive time

Got no clue.
But I am curious as to why your testing a new device , are they taking out the mcp200? -
Things get tested all the time. Adopted is another matter entirely.
driverdriver Thanks this. -
Is the control head (whatever it might be, tablet, etc.) hardwired to the device, or wireless connection, ie. Bluetooth, cellular, WiFi etc.? Might be some lag there.....mine does the same thing. If I make the change manually in about 5 min. the system makes another entry in the log, so I have 2 entries for the same event. Which is OK I guess.......but if I start driving again before the system makes its entry I will only have one. I do that when I need to show a stop and don’t want to wait for the system to switch to the line 4.

How long are we talking about? There is a 180 second (3 minute) "buffer" before the ELD will set to Om Duty from Driving. The way I read the ELD rules is it's optional, but our ELD at work is the same way. Even with the key out of the truck, we have to wait 3 minutes before we can go on duty.

5 minutes for it to go automatically, but I can do it manually as soon as it thinks ghe truck is at rest.
It wouldn't matter if there was a yard move option, but I'm logging an extra hour on line 3 compared to the aobr.25(2)+2 Thanks this. -
Well, when I replied I was 100% sure I read the 180 second timeout in FMCSA 395. I went and looked and now cannot find any specified timeout other than a simple "in motion" timeout of 3 seconds from when the speed drops to 0, the truck is no longer in motion. (Under 395, Appendix A 4.3.1.2.
Still, ours will not let one change to on-duty for 3 minutes. Very annoying.
Dunno if that's compliant or not, but it would surprise me if Omnitracs would get it wrong. Could just be a company option though.gentleroger Thanks this. -
Based on how many different opinions there are, I would not he surprised if Omni got it wrong.25(2)+2 Thanks this.
