It’s actually about 4 miles shorter to go around the Virginia side, but only advisable in the middle of the night due to the traffic volume in the daytime and the bottlenecks at 270.

Driving through southern MD is always better than driving through northern VA.
Sirscrapntruckalot, BillStep and BigBob410 Thank this. -
Thanks for the input. I tried the East route this last week. Much better. Although I ran through there last Wednesday when the roads were icy and visibility was bad. I also went through early this morning. I like it much more than the 495 west. Not as many twist and turns and merging traffic. Also I think I saw a hotel with quite a few trucks parked there. Not sure what I was looking at.BigBob410 Thanks this.

You were probably looking at the cutoff at the top of the hill by Oxon Hill Rd. Not to bad if you're running out of hours .It's a short walk over to the hotel. I don't recommend it if you can avoid it!BillStep Thanks this.

Ok. I googled the location on maps. It looks like its at Eisenhower and Stovall street. Good to know in the event I ever need a place to stop.

Oh 10-4 in Alexandria. If it's where I'm thinking that might be a pay parking lot. Either way it's better than the other way!

I hope your not afraid of heights and a narrow road
