garmin doesn't have 'real' truck routing anyway, the c-series and some had that instaled in case they ever actually came out with it- which they didn't. it does make an attempt to keep you on some bigger roads (along with using other features at appropriate times) - thats what I use is a c series cause of the half-### 'truck' routing and the speakers get louder. but it sure isn't real truck routing.
-they did just come out with a model set that has the 'lane guidance' you talk about, i'd like to give that a shot.
in a matter of speaking your both right, in my opionion.
Map, GPS or both?

i did have a guy swear to me that new 5000 model with no battery in it was 'real truck routing' ........i don't buy it, i think it may be aimed at trucks/rv's, but highly doubt its 'real truck routing'

thats funny, i actually called garmin today about the 5000, and they said "currenty we have no gps with truck routing" even tho the 5000 on thier website is listed under truck rv bus gps... its has a bigger screen. thats about it. well i might chance a co pilot 430 and see how it works out. if not i atleast have my tom tom.
Faber Thanks this. -
i'd be fine with like a c550, their cheap, say names, and have (from what I've heard, i just use a c530- gets loud, woks fine) a louder speaker setup- proably cause they are boxy and bigger then the nuvi's. i'm thinking there may be like one other option they have like avoid u-turns, or off road, or something..........cant remember now. It's their old model.....garmin would be wise to design something for truckers like that but with the bigger screen......instead of just coming out with a huge screen nuvi (the 5000) with no battery in it. that was dumb.......i yank mine out and use it other places or pre-trip in the living room, or whatever off the battery.
bought wife a nuvi 660- pretty nice but i dont need all that crap. guess it's kinda up to the individual. -
I use DeLorme (which is made for cars) and downloaded low bridges, scales, truckstops, and other stuff from POI-Factory. That data seems to be pretty much good for any GPS, but you need to format it to work with DeLorme. Therefore I made a web site where you can download these files all ready for the DeLorme, as well as step by step instructions.
Oh, by the way, even though I've been using DeLorme since 2002, I still keep my Rand McNally handy. I also keep an extra old laptop and MS GPS reciever as a spare.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 10, 2009

With my Microsoft S&T it is nice to go to the Live view of the area you are driving to. get a Satellite image of the shipper or the Receiver's Location! Plus you can figure out how large of an area of parking is at the truck stops and how it is laid out before you get there.

I have a generic GPS blue tooth receiver that I use with my Windows Mobile 6 smart phone, along with Google maps. I can select satellite view and I have seen the trucks in our Fontana terminal. It's resolution is fine enough to show me walking around the house! I mostly use my Garmin Nuvi 200w on the truck with a 2009 Rand McNally as a backup.
