I think I'm still a bit gun shy with the head gasket Martin...LOL
Not sure on the ACERT thing must be something to do with the timing and valves to keep there head gasket together.

I know its not good for the wallet.....BUT its all most worth changing the head gasket every 6 months to have a engine that is soooooooo nice to drive:yes2557:

I heard a rumor years ago that the CAT racing truck (Inky Tullock) in NZ was using custom made head gaskets with titanium fire rings made by some US company, they were rumored be making 2000 - 2500hp from there C12. Was never able to get much information on it, I know they cut all the counter weights off the crank to lighten it, I did hear that it had been modified to take CAT 3500 Series injectors.

When I got my truck dynoed last month the guy that did it was one of the engine builders on Inky's race truck he was very interesting to talk to I will try to remember what he said:
    C 12
    1500 hp
    twin C9 turbo's
bored out fuel lines in the head
    flowed C15 injectors
there was more but he was telling me so fast I couldnt take it all on board

    Jas Thanks this.

Was that his first truck or second, I think there were two. I thought the 1500hp one was the one still being raced Aus by Middleton, I thought he built a second truck that was more powerful and faster but is just sitting in a shed unused in NZ somewhere. I may be wrong on this as most of what I can find out comes from second hand information and isnt always right :)

I stand corrected, Tullocks web site say the volvo had 1300hp, the freightliner had 1500hp. The freightliner is the truck now being campained in Aus by Bob Middleton.
Just shows you cant believe everything you hear.. LOL.

The guy that built it was just about to tell me about HP and moderfacations when the big boss walked in so he stopped he told me "I will tell you later" He was interested on what I have had done to my engine.
I should corner him one day, would be interresting to what he had to say.
One thing he did say "the hardest thing was to keep the head gasket together"
    sounds like a weak link.

But you are talking about a 1500hp C12 probably pushing close to 80lbs of boost.

Better having the head gasket as the weakest link rather than the conrods I suppose :yes2557:.

1500hp C12 sounds like fun to me, imagine what that level of work would get out of a C16...

    C16KIWI Thanks this.

They built that engine originally for European Super Racetruck class, they had to use 80mm restrictors in single turbo and I don't remember what size in twinturbo engines. Don't know if they have to use restrictors in NZ and Australia but they were talking about the same HP level.
Super Class is now dead, now it's Race Truck class, 65mm restrictor 1080 hp, 4280 lb/ft at 1200 rpm, 75 psi boost from twinturbo C13. Engine life 2,5 hours at full load. EGT 1920 F before first turbo, 1650 between and 1290 after!
