I have really high arches, and always put the inserts in my boots, the ones with both heel and arch support. Made a huge difference. The climbing never bothered me, it was all the walking on pavement.

I have the inserts in my boots and leather shoes which really helps me. I don’t wear my boots unless it is raining or snowing. I wear a hiking style low cut shoe similar to a cross trainer but the pavement and the climbing on the rig is hard on them. My feet sweat too bad if I wear boots when it isn’t near or below freezing. I have tried to wear a boot but I am more comfortable in a low cut. I guess in your neck of the woods you need a boot much of the time.

My ankles need the support. That and I prefer the slip resistant soles. I'd buy a waterproof insulated pair in the fall, and by spring they'd be ready to replaced by my normal summer pair. Never did find a boot that lasted more than six months in this line of work.

Welcome to New Mexico. Land of morons and suicidal mother***** who couldn't give a #### about your safety; or their own. You know I live in Albuquerque, and I can say that the drivers in this state don't even have the basic human instinct of survival anymore!
Yesterday running around town with the wife we got a green light at a very busy intersection and couldn't drive through the intersection for the first 10-15 seconds because drivers just flat refused to stop turning left on the red! Probably 8 cars went through after they had the red. Very common occurrence here in NM these days..

That sign at the border shouldn't read "Welcome to New Mexico: Land of Enchantment" anymore. It should read "Welcome to New Mexico: Leave your IQ at the border, we don't have time for that ####.".

I am Jack's complete lack of surprise. Dec 15, 2016 I'm running in stop and go traffic (crash ahead) here in Albuquerque. Two lane interchange, right lane is merging into my lane on the left before merging onto I40 and the other 4 lanes. I have 4 dash-cams on my truck, 1 forward, 1 looking at me, and one down each side of the truck facing backward. Traffic starts to move, I start accelerating and about 60' or so later the truck shutters. "That's weird" I think, but keep down on the throttle; truck shutters again. "What the hell?" so I stop. I lean forward and look at my front end. I see the roof of a small car right up against my right fender (Peterbilt 389). "Did I just get hit?" Hit my four ways, get out and go out front. #### right I got hit; car has pulled the front corner of my bumper out about 16" or so. Lady in the driver seat rolls her window down and before I can even say anything to her "I had my blinker on sir" with a real pompous attitude.
All I could muster out for a response was "You had your blinker on? Well that's great ma'am if I could see your #### CAR!!" Cop gets there, dos his thing and goes to give her the citation he wrote for her and she tries to convince him that she wasn't at fault because she had her blinker on. When he started to explain it to her I just walked away and let him do his yob (yes I said Yob; I live in New Mexico, no one here has a Job anymore, they all have Yobs). Later that night I got home and pulled the video off my cameras and found out that she was actually behind me in the right lane still but 2-3 car lengths behind my trailer. Sped up to beat me into my lane and sure enough, she turned on that blinker just before her lights disappeared under my hood. She honestly thought that her blinker gave her the right of way and made me vanish I guess? I never saw the broad coming, not even for a second. She was completely in my blind spot. These people these days.

Sounds like a good place to put a red light camera.

    Meatlings.
    Meat with eyes.
(That's one grade lower than window licking, crayon eating, steering wheel holder.)
And there again is that "Aire of Entitlement."
I'm special; so you just get out of my way.

No, how about this; you are a good example of "natural selection."
When it all goes down; so will you.

I'm coming back from South Joisey, picking up a plow truck, and on 78 West they are paving,
and have 2 lanes blocked off. Signage well ahead of this says "3/4 mile ahead - two lane merge."
Let's all guess what the meatling herd did?
Did they start right away, clearing out of the 2 left lanes, and moving Rt. - to the one open lane?
(That's what I did; I cut over, waited for an opening, and cut over again. Lined up and ready to go.)
Of course not, they waited until the full distance was wasted, and they were up against the barriers.
Then try to get 2 lanes into 1 - in 50 feet.
    Brilliant.

I always try to buy boots with a Vibram sole they seem to last the longest and come in both winter styles and hikers for spring.

Ok, so since no one else asked the Op, is there no way to limp it to an off ramp, just asking, I have no idea where you are.

I delivered a car in Albuquerque once & there was an accident down the street. I heard cursing, the horn then the tires skidding. In that order. Apparently the cursing & horn did not remove the obstacle(traffic) out of the way as after all that was the crash. ;)

There is never a good place for a corrupt fund raiser otherwise known as red light cameras.
