We were signed up with JJKeller and had all the equipment installed and I was looking to start using the ELD's before the mandate. By chance, I checked the FMCSA database to be sure that they were compliant. Surprise! I'm not sure if they have more than one system, but the one we were signed up with was only registered as an AOBRD, so it would have been good til 2019, but I didn't want to have to have to switch again in 2 years and have to train my drivers on a new system. They could have registered the system as an ELD with the FMCSA, but they didn't bother and they had no plans to do so. JJK was originally working with Verizon Telematics, because Verizon didn't have it's own ELD functionality, but when Verizon bought Fleetmatics, JJK cut off their partnership with Verizon. Too much competition, I guess. Although, it was stressful at the time to switch last minute, I'm glad we got away from JJK. There were 3 separate portals that I had to log in to on the backend. It was very confusing and not user friendly at all. I also heard that they were having loads of issues with their software and they were eventually granted a short extension for the mandate.

The short answer in a nutshell is NO. It seems all the Bluetooth devices are buggy and customer service sucks (at best).

As a new o/o I have asked this very question - looking to be compliant but not wanting to bound to a long-term contract. The VDO RoadLog (and RoadLog+) have come highly recommended. Upfront cost of around $500, but if you use the standard RoadLog (difference between standard and plus is whether or not it has cellular connectivity), there are no monthly fees. Their units also have a built-in thermal printer - just print your logs directly from the device during an inspection, no instructions needed for the officer. Device also comes with back office software that seems pretty user-friendly. Just ordered mine after a couple MONTHS of research and asking questions / demos / talking to reps / other drivers / etc.

Will post back after installation and some use to confirm (or retract) my optimism about this device.
