Maybe he got more then the platinum but I don't think so motor was a 05 c15 and it cost 36,000 at hunter peterbilt next time I see him I'll ask him.Easy way to find out is call hunter if I'm so far off.

ISX with emissions figure on $30,000 + with labor. It is easy to hit $40,000 without batting an eye. New crate motors are in that $40,000 range from Cummins. They are proud of their parts.

What's the point of rebuilding it if the cost of a new engine is the same? Save some time.
Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
Actually these Cummins reman crate motors are having serious issues, glad I passed on going that route. I have been hearing of the rings not being set correctly and liner heights are all over the map. I know of two of these crate motors, CM-871's being in framed with around 200,000 miles on them due to these QC issues. Funny too, I priced out one of these crate motors in December of 2015, it was $28,000, called back in January when my motor gave it up and that same motor was now $36,000.00 And when I say say motor, I mean the same motor. It was sitting up at Bridgeway Cummins for a few months. Again, glad I passed.
We In framed mine for $38,950, but we removed and went through the transmission, new clutch, etc. All new accessories, pulleys, really went through the motor, oil coolers, new radiator, head, injectors, turbo, all new fuel system, etc. Labor was $4,000 the rest was parts, all new, nothing reman. The EGR DPF system was taken care of prior to the in frame. High heat issues from that system took out the head prior to my purchase is all I could figure. The EGR DPF system masked this head issue. As soon as the mandate was eliminated there it was, like that week. I nursed the truck for over a year with the bad head until it was time for the in frame.
I would not wish one of these motors on anyone. -
Why would you purchase a reman when these engines are made for in-frame rebuilds?
-
So a cummins shop can actually build them correctly. And the factory where an engine would be sent it you bought a reman doesn't do it right.
I am hoping to God I have a long way to go before I have to cross this bridge. I want this one paid and my glider in the driveway when it eventually decides to take a dump.Oxbow and Justrucking2 Thank this. -
I stated I thought about it. It was winter and just getting it into a shop was weeks out. Dropping in a crate motor was a serious option, to get the truck back on the road, until that price increase. Then finding a shop to do the work, that was another fun one, who do you trust?Oxbow Thanks this.

Yep, a friend went the factory crate route, he about fell over when they tore that thing apart. There is another one down in GA that was the same, liner heights were all over the map among other things.

I did a crate isx Cummins ReCon last year. 2001 my. Did the labor myself $22500.00. Every shop started at about $18k for basic in-frame plus cost of new cams and followers ( reason for the rebuild) so another $5k there easy. No turbo or injectors.
Oxbow and Justrucking2 Thank this.
