Hey folks,
Did any of you installed a Series 60 engine in a Freightliner Cascadia, or did you hear any friends installing it ? My DD15 engine died and it will cost me 30-35k to overhaul it witch is ridiculously expensive. My local shop told me that is possible, I'll need a special harness kit, plus some modifications in the hvac and cooling system, mounting brackets, but I want to hear more opinions.
Much appreciated.

Sure anything is possible with time and money.
I can see a lot of shop labour $$$$$$ , down time $$$$$$, and the cost of a reman $$$$$$ being not far off your $30-35 original quote to just fix your dd15.
If your going to do the swap it would only make sense to put a fresh S60 in there.mhyn Thanks this. -
Fix the motor, and learn the emission systems. More than likely that is what killed your motor. Just a guess on my part, the emissions killing the motor.
-
It is against epa regulations to change the engine to one with different emissions controls. If your Cascadia has dpf, perhaps the ecm of a series 60 wouldn't support it.

Do a search for wire harness, someone in AZ makes a conversion harness. Harrison Freightliner sells cascadia gliders with series 60's, so yes it can be done, but I'm not sure how much you'll actually save. A crate 60 runs about $23,000.

If someone's charging $30k-35k to have it inframed, you're getting ripped off.
If you're close to the Fontana, CA area, a shop I go to can inframe it for about $14k.
He inframed @dztruck DD15 Cascadia last year, and the motor is working fine.
Where is the truck located at?Last edited: Mar 20, 2018
Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
That was the estimate at the dealership. Plus there are different levels of rebuilding a motor so the price varies accordingly.

The S60 was a factory option in 08 , it can be done .

I didn't know anything about EPA regulations, I'll look more into them. That sucks. In my point of view all the glider manufacturers are not abiding EPA regulations then.

Glider is not a new truck , it is a replacement part .
Bean Jr. Thanks this.
