So I guess the signs that are just inside the state line that warn drivers of the chain enforcement law on the 70 from Sept 1-May 31 don't mean anything.

Anyone who has a CDL or with their own authority should know about chain enforcement laws or other laws regarding rigs prior to running in a state.

btw...I'm from "Cali" too and I know better. :biggrin_25510:

That would be a serious ID-10-T error.

Some body dropped the ball at Watkins Shepherd. For them being a mountain states carrier its inexcusable for them to not know about chain laws.

CA, OR, and WA are must carry in the winter. If this guy is from CA and not carrying he is already in violation of the laws.

Along the same lines as this story, there used to be a company that had garages on both side of Monarch Pass, on US 50 in Colorado. They rented out chains, and would install them.

It didn't matter which way you were going, you could have them installed in Garfield, then have them uninstalled in Sargents, or vice/versa. There is only about 15 miles or so between these two little "wide spots in the road," but they can be 15 miles of total "pucker factor" to drivers who are not familiar with the road, and with winter driving.

The way I understand the article is that the truck had chains and Mr Rodriquez had no clue how to install them, again that goes back to the trucking company and their failure to train the employee.

I tried to reread the link but it wouldn't come up.
My guess would be that Rodriquez is from SO-CAL where when the first flake falls on the 5, 15, 38, 2, 14, and the 58, it's SHUT DOWN time.
Imagine if snow fell on the 405 or the 605......:biggrin_2551:
