Well I'm off to TMC oreintation next week. I plan on leaving out in the morning around 2:00 or 2:30am so I'll get up there before it gets to late. Got my route planned out and just about everything loaded. I thought about heading to Dallas and hitting I35 all the way but thats about 150 miles out of my way, but it sure would be a lot less stopping and the speed limit would be higher. I plan on just heading up through Texarkana, through Arkansas, then Missouri and on into DesMoines. I think I can make it in about 12hrs if I don't stop much. I'll try to keep everyone posted on how everything goes.

A faster route will be slightly further to the East picking up US 69. Get used to this route, you will be using it frequently.
You are giving yourself plenty of time, which is good. I would check the weather so you don't have any suprises. You better add a couple of hours to your trip for just in case.
I recommend arriving as soon as you can and get situated. Find out what time the bus leaves Monday morning. You will have some paperwork, another application to fill out. The are just checking to see if you filled out the first one and didn't tell the truth.
Go to sleep early as you can, tomorrow will be a trying day. You will be int the classroom all day, and you will have to take a physical. -
Good luck Grumpy1, and drive safe. You will probably run into some less than perfect road conditions once you hit the Iowa border but shouldn't encounter trouble making it to Des Moines in plenty of time.

Best of luck to ya Grumpy! I'll be checkin' in to see how you're doing.

See ya there Grumpy1 , have a safe travel . I'll be flying out there myself early in the morning on Sunday, I should arrive somewhere around 11:30 am or so.
I am still looking for a Rand McNally truckers Atlas, seems like all the nice spiral bound ones are gone from my area, went to 3 truck stops and there all out, no stores here carry them. I was supposed to get one for Xmas but my brother bailed on me,,lol and its too late to order one on Amazon. TMC asks to bring one, but my recruiter said the chance of me going out with a trainer afterwards was slim because of my location. Do I need one for class? -
But two big ones are

Well I'm more thn willing to take anyone to get what they need. I have a regular atlas but had planned on picking one up on the way but if you need to we can ride over to the truck stop when I get there, if it's not to late, so you can buy one. '
I've been watching the weather and it looks like it will be pretty nice. Thanks everyone.Baack Thanks this. -
You won't need your Road Atlas until after orientation is done. If you're running short on cash, don't buy it yet. The hotel usually have the cheap ones for ten bucks! Goodluck everybody, have fun at training. Remember to call George the Buffet Bandit and call Don the Strawberry Cowboy.Baack Thanks this.
