You know, I wouldn't mind so much to see a full 18 parked there because then I would assume that the truck lot was full at the time this driver needed his rest. But anything that can fit into one or two 4-wheeler spots should go there instead of taking up the long RV and truck spots.

Ok as a driver soon to be a full time RV'er i am on the fence here but i can tell you i want be setting up for the night in the truck stop in my RV. Mine has to have at least one of the slides out to go to bed so i can't get into bed unles its out. Now as far as weight mine weighs about 1700 fully loaded. That is the trailer alone then you add the 2 Harleys and the water and all the wifes stuff she can't live with out you know 6 month supply of what ever and a year of this and another 6 month of this we may need that. Any way it adds up my 1 ton truck and all our gear and the toy hauler weigh close to 26000 lbs so its a good thing i have a class A. Its almost as long as my old rig with a 53 ft trailer also you figure 42 ft trailer and a extended cab truck it gets pretty close and you take folks that have never driven one like a freind of my wifes we got here a 45ft 5th wheel and once she saw it behind the truck she said she was going to find her a truck driver to move it so any of you want a part time job i will let you know when we take off again.

I am somewhat on the fence as well.

Although, I would never want anyone driving tired and endangering lives, I feel that there is a large majority of RV's that use Rest Area's and Truck Stops as a way to save money as opposed to being too tired to drive. Some live in their RV's and go months without paying for fees because they squat everywhere. You can tell that in certain areas of the country like Oregon where you see the same RV's parked all the time up and down the interstates.

I have left nice notes are cars and small rv's who are taking up truck parking in r/a's that are very busy just to let them know that truckers are obligated to follow hours and we are actually required by law to park when we are out of hours. I think for the most part people just don't know, many don't give a rats ##### but a lot just don't know.

Being a team driver, I feel horrible just taking up a spot at a full rest area while letting hubby sleep in an extra hour or so. I hate that a solo driver, who is out of hours, was hoping to park there and we are taking up their spot. We try our best to not take up parking at nighttime and will pull in the fuel islands and back through again while the other is getting ready as opposed to taking up a parking spot.

I feel RV'ers have many more parking options and I would highly doubt them to be harassed by police or otherwise when parking on sides streets where trucks are not welcome or just about any shopping center parking lot.

You should know better . There are plenty of trailers you could have bought that don't require a slideout to be open to go to bed . Why did you buy one that requires it when you plan to park at truck stops ? Expect to catch a lot of flack .
You made a poor choice where weight is concerned too . There is no 1 ton truck with a GCWR of 26,000 lbs. 1 ton GCWR is usually 23,000 lbs. and that's with the best engine/transmission/rear axle combination . Ford claims their Super Duty 350 can tow 17,000 lbs. Everyone in the hauling business avoids Fords like the plague . They are very unreliable , use more fuel , and parts are higher . Dodge puts their tow capacity at 16,400 and Chevy and GM at 16,700 .

NO where in my post did it say i was planing on setting up in the truck stop. Actually as far away from them as i can get the better off i am i think. Had enough time in them when i had too. As far as poor choices i made the choices i made on my wants and desires not your opinions. As for my Toyhauler it is probably one of the most popular ones in the US and canada Its a Keyston Raptor 3712 TS with the 12 ft garage and the service station and a 5500 wat genset so it is very popular with the toy hauler set. And as far as the 1 ton it hanbdels the weight fine it is all it wants but it does fine for an old 92 model Ford F350 with 7.3 IDI and Hypemax after market Turbo. We plan on living it for about 2 years full time at least if it gets to be tomuch for the 1 Ton i'l get a single axle Medium duty and switch it over no problem either that od beef up the ford not a big deal.

You didn't ? Who said this ? "Ok as a driver soon to be a full time RV'er i am on the fence here but i can tell you i want be setting up for the night in the truck stop in my RV " A lot of problems are caused by people overloading equipment due to their "wants and desires" and ignoring common sense opinions . You should consider the safety of those around you depending on your ability to stop and not being inconvenienced by a blocked lane when a transmissionor axle breaks . I am well familiar with what 1 tons are capable of and what tears them up .

This depends entirely on the area they are in. There are MANY areas where they will be ticketed for parking on the street. And in the shopping center/Walmart lots. A lot of cities and towns have local ordinances prohibiting parking of ANY trailer or RV on the local streets.

Most of these are driven by the local RV Parks where the owners of the park are politically connected. They feel that allowing RV'ers to use ANYPLACE other than their park to stay overnight is money out of their pockets. So they do whatever they have to, to get the local politicians to pass these restrictive ordinances.

I've got a relatively small travel trailer that I pull behind either one of my pickup trucks. I am 52' in length when hooked up. While I have never spent a night in a rest area, or a truck stop with this rig, there are certainly circumstances where I would do so.

But NOT just to avoid paying the fee for a campground. Yeah, I know that there are many RV'ers who do this. But I'm not one of them.

As a trucker does it piss me off to have all the parking spots taken up? Yes, of course it does. But when the area is posted for RV's and trucks on one side, and cars on the other, that is JUST THE WAY IT IS. It would also piss me off if I needed to stop while in the RV and all the spots were taken.

Unfortunately, this is one of these "ME first and only ME and screw everybody else" situations that you run into so often.

Sturbridge , MA was like that but I think they changed it . Sturbridge has 2 truckstops and for a while truckers couldn't sleep overnight in them .
I used to run through there regularly in the 90's but rarely get in that area now .

    I think, .................................. :smt017
    :laughing3:
That those who have RV's --- especially those ultra-cool 5th wheel trailers with toy storage,
    complete with stored toys, -----
and often seen pulling a trailer FULL of assorted toys there behind, out thar for all to see ......................
on their way to/from work ---
and especially AT work :Trailer::Driver: -------
Should be ashamed of themselves. :biggrin_25516:
    That's right! :yes2557:
Maybe even banned from the highways during daylight hours, --- at least. :Traffic lights::Police car:

As Big truck truck dwivers, :Trailer::Driver:
should we be subjected to the sight of anyone havin' fun?
Right in front of, beside and/or behind us?
    :biggrin_2552:

Now, that right thar don't seem fair. :biggrin_25512:
    Do it 2 U? :biggrin_2552: :biggrin_25525:
