That's where I'm at on my pickup. I'm mounting through the roof on a full size GMC 4x4. I question the metal thickness on these new vehicles anyway. A Wilson will have less strain on the roof metal being the load sits right down on the roof. Also, the longer the whip, not only do you whack more stuff, but that increases strain on the sheet metal too. I started a thread on what I'd like to do on my "back road/hunting vehicle" in regard to full 1/4 wave. Like you I've run Wilson's for years with no complaints. I've used them barefoot ran everything from little RM Italy amps up to Texas Star 667v through them.

Just bought a Predator for my General. Hope it’s as good as they say. Love the work Clay and clay radio has done. Loud and PROUDjessejamesdallas Thanks this.

What kind of vehicle? How the antenna performs is determined by the type of vehicle and where you attach it to the vehicle and how you attach it to the vehicle.jessejamesdallas Thanks this.

I’ve had good luck with the Wilson line of trunk mount and magnet mount antennas. I think it matters what type of vehicle one drives and what type of mount one wants to use.

That's always a good choice...but that extra 2' on the 102" whip will have you hearing "BANG-BANG-BANG" everytime you drive under low tree limbs and bridges...If you can live with that, the 102" whip is a cheaper way to go!

Been there, done that. The Wilson on a roof of a pickup is pretty bad too, and it's only 5ft, as you well know. That's why I don't want anything any longer than that, and if I did, I just go all out with the whip.rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

Yeah, I've got a Wilson 1000 mag mount on the roof of my F250. I figure its tip is well over 11 feet high, which is enough to hit tree limbs in neighborhoods and campgrounds. It's pretty loud in the cab, sounding like a monkey beating on the roof. I sure don't want it any higher unless maybe I never left the Interstates.
mike5511 Thanks this. -
Exactly. I've run the 1000 for years. I've never tested it, but I'll bet my Wilson in the middle of my roof (through the roof mount) will do as well as a big ol' whip mounted on the bumper.jessejamesdallas Thanks this.

No doubt...Different story tho if that big ol' whip was mounted on the roof also!
