I actually drove one of their 388s when i was there. Truck number was 92638. They oil change based on Cummins recommendations at 23k. At least they did when I was there. All the 388s were 9 speeds. From my understanding they were overruns from peterbilt and were sold very cheap to Herald Annette and company. My understanding from the shop guys was peterbilt sold them to tmc with 9 speeds because tmc governs their trucks so low at 63, and if tmc wanted 13 speeds like most of their fleet was at the time, peterbilt refused to warranty them if the trucks had 13s.

Has anyone tried SchneiderTrucks.com? It seems they have good pricing. Fleet truck spec. Some have warranty yet on them, but most are sold AS IS.

How's the 388 treating you? Would you recommend their trucks or dealer?

I paid to dyno my almost million mile truck before buying it. The point was to stress the heck out of it so that if something was going to go wrong, it would go wrong on the dyno BEFORE it became my property.

Just saying that an engine with that many miles is a ticking time bomb it needs to be overhauled before any major damage accurse.

Just curious if you did purchase from TMC...Assuming you did by your picture, can you share any advice with me?
I'm heading to their SC location Saturday to possibly purchase one of the ten 388's they have there. I already talked to the salesman there and he told me how much "wiggle room" there was on price.

Curious if you were able to get any work history on the engine, etc, etc.

PLease, someone answer me this question. Why would anyone buy a used company truck with high mileage, base models, weak transmissions, low H.P engines, had God knows how many drivers in it, the abuse by driver.and so forth. I see where the possible maintenance upkeep on mega company trucks. Some of those trucks are as high as a new one. I am glad to see you do research, but maybe take a mechanic along to inspect the truck before deciding on a purchase. I truly wish you the best in finding your next truck.
