2000 FLD120 here... Been idling the truck as I do some light maintenance on it at home. Went to start it yesterday, ran for a few seconds and died. Fuel gauge shows 1/4 left in the tanks. Passenger side is empty, drivers side is about 1/4 of the way full, and both fuel shut-off's are open, so I'd think it would automatically pull from the drivers side. Plugged vents or lines? Would appreciate some feedback. Thanks!

You need to put some fuel in both sides and prime the engine as your engine lost prime and now it's sucking air that's why it won't stay running.

I understand priming and everything else, I guess I just couldn't understand what would be causing it to stall when the driver's side tank has plenty of fuel. I guess the fuel tanks aren't equalizing, more or less. I've seen plenty of threads about that happening, mostly for Pete's. I'm sure most of the fixes go across the board..?

Once you too much air it wont pull from the other side. My truck draws from the bottom and if l did what you did it would die too. Close the feed line on the empty tank and prime the filters and pump away. Hopefully its not a pita to get going. Once mine gets low like that it pulls more from the drivers side too. Been like that from new.

Gotcha, thanks for the explanation. It's an N14 so I'll prime the pump and filter to see if it'll pull.

So I filled the fuel filter and put 5 gallons in the passenger side tank. Got to looking around on the drivers side and pulled up the vent hose. I found this to be the culprit for the tanks not leveling out:

Now why would anyone want to plug it up like that?? The hose was brittle and snapped off of the vent anyway. Good thing I bought 100ft of 1/4" today. I ended up taking the vent out and cleaning it. Pressed the ignition button and it fired right up. I'll check the level tomorrow to see whether or not the tanks equalized.

    Diesel Dave Thanks this.
