On my trucks I usually had it just over the rear of the front drive tire.

Sounds like that 5th wheel has been relocated rearward from standard position.

Are you weighing on a 3-platform scale where your rig is level from steer axle to trailer axles? brakes released and foot off brake pedal? What exactly is steer weight and what exactly is drives weight? what is your fuel status?

Trying to get accurate axle weights on a small platform scale that is higher or lower than the approach or departure apron is next to impossible

My 5th wheel was installed too far away from standard position, that’s why I have 9k lbs on steering wheel. It looks like I need to go to dealership and reinstall it back. Otherwise I can haul only 41-42k lbs max loads. Do you know is it expensive to reinstall 5th wheel mechanism back to position?

In your first post you said you had 9,000lbs-9,900lbs on your steers. Which is it? Good luck being an O/O.

I can't imagine why anyone would ever move a 5th wheel plate back from it's factory position but if that's the case, it must be done to put it back where it should be, whatever the cost. Maybe they used the tractor to pull "furniture vans" designed for single axle tractors, that would tear off mud flap hangers if not moved further back.

If it's far back behind the center of the drive axles, this creates a safety concern as weigh is removed from steer axle as you put more weight on the drives. This is never a good thing.
