I can’t imagine what it must be like trying not to slam the hell out of a dock with one of those awful contraptions.

How about a jobsite radio from Home Depot or something?

Nice little place. I could live in one of those and be happy.

    I’d need a garage though...

I will say, having been issued a brand new Pete, the trannies have gotten better. Still not on the level of the Volvo automatic, but it's a lot easier to kiss the dock rather than annihilating everything in my path.

    They're improving--give it time...

Anything has to beat shaking the whole building while fighting the machine. :biggrin_25510:

  8. ok from what my Neighbor told me (New York) when I was a minion. the wheels were on trailers so during the transfer to rail they could push or pull the trailers on the flat cars to set them in place. and then be locked by kingpin. fruehauf came up with it to load to railroad cars.

I’ve only ever driven one auto in a truck, a day cab Volvo that the company I’m leased to owns. Never driven it in snow or ice or anything, but, at the risk of loosing my man card, I’ll say the dang thing was impressive. I’ve put quite a few miles on it dragging an end dump, and it’s always done what I ask it without complaint.

I’d still rather have a manual, but if I did in-town only stuff with lots of stop and go, I really think the auto would be the way to go.
