The reason I got into trucking is my friend who suggested it to me. He has heard from many of his friends who work with FedEx and Panther as owner operators and make around +10k a month. He suggested we could work as a team owner operators. He convinced me. So I quit applying for jobs in my field. But that's why I have my doubts.

The company that does that is a good one from what I have heard. It is called Expediter's something, I forget their full name. They have company drivers also. I would suggest starting out company with your friend for at least a year and if you both still like it move over to O/O. Best wishes!

Edited to add: Looked it up and the company is Expediter Services.

    You heard wrong.

Expedite freight through custom critical and panther is not making $10k month in your pocket.

Personally I'd recommend a company posistion first.
See if you take to it.
It may seem like anyone can do it and many try but you have to like it to succed and if you enjoy it then you'll find success.
But wait till you get a grip on the lifestyle and the hardhips and expense of this career, THEN you can make a better informed decision.

You can make more money running solo I think than as a team of new O/O. I’m just beginning in trucking, but like you have a BSBA and know how the numbers games work. It might be another story if you had two trucks and were each driving your own.

Your friend is very wrong which is why nothing about your post made sense. There's good money to be had in the world... For properly capitalized trucking industry veterans. The trucking business is probably the worst get rich quick scheme imaginable. All the people I know killing it right now aren't even on their first market cycle much less first year in trucking. The vast majority have been around 5+ years and all have been around at least 3. Those are minimum times since the average time the business is probably 20+ years for the people really crushing it right now.

You strike me as a decent enough kid in his early 20's so I'll save you some trouble... success in get rich quick schemes is mostly about luck, and if you summed up all the time and money poured into them vs all the money that came back out it would have a negative ROI.

You're a finance guy... what kind of jobs are you applying to in finance? I was an econ guy, but I was in a substantially weaker spot than you are resume wise like 5 years ago and now I'm a reasonably successful freight broker.

I shouldn't involve myself in these kinds of threads, but on this one, I cannot help myself.

Isn't it ironic you cannot find a good job in your field due to lack of experience, yet you think you can come into the trucking industry and make a mint, with that same lack of experience.

Your "high GPA" is not impressive to several people on this forum. I'm guessing you would not believe how many college-educated drivers are already in the trucking industry. Former doctors, lawyers, bankers, etc get into this industry because it's something new and different to them or it's something they have wanted to do since they were a kid and are finally able to check it off of their bucket list.

Finally, what many of these posts are trying to tell you is a lot of the posters you are talking to have PHD's from the School of Hard Knocks. That is an education you simply cannot get in a book nor classroom but it is vital to be successful in this business.

I am not trying to get rich quick from trucking. I am sorry if that what my post sounds like. I am just thinking that if I get the experience as a truck driver in the beginning and then move on to become an owner-operator, wouldn't this be a viable path?

I am sorry if my post annoyed you in any way. I didn't intend it to. I came to this forum being doubtful about what my friend suggested to me and about the whole thing. I am like I said at a crossroads and just looking for advice. I am not trying to get rich quick from trucking despite lack of experience. That's why I asked that maybe it is better to build experience first as a company driver and then go on to becoming an owner operator. But I personally heard from many friends who work with FedEx and Panther as owner operators and make around 10k a month profit.

First off I am a recruiter. Next, I can't hire new drivers with less than two years in the business, company or Owner op. Next. I was a driver for 21 years including 8 as an owner operator. Those things being said here it goes.

You have a business degree so you are capable of learning the business. Most of the money being made in the business is not being made by drivers. Go to work for a medium sized carrier and stick it out through the rookie bullcrap they feed you. While you are there learn everything you can about the way the business actually works. learn about FMCSR regs. Learn about rates. Learn about lanes and business cycles. Stay away from lease purchase plans, the good ones are few and far between. While you are learning get in touch with some hiring people and head hunters and see if you can get a job in operations. This will use your degree and give you an opportunity to learn a LOT more. Then see if you want to buy a truck. You may decide to buy a truck, hire a driver and continue to work in the office. A lot of trucking companies started this way. Anyway the answer is to educate yourself.

    I hope this helped.
