I worked for a company that bought 9 tri-axle steps with a 14" pin setting and the front 2 inches of fifth wheel stuck out.
This caused OR, ID, MT, UT and WY scales to inspect us more often as they thought we had hooked up wrong.
It also caused dirt and sand to build up on the front of the fifth in winter and cause a lot of wear to the plate (both upper and lower).
When they had to repair the uppers at 2 or 3 years they replaced them with 18" pin sets. I also had a lot of wear on my fifth wheel and when I traded that truck off they took 500 bucks off to rebuild it or replace it.Ruthless Thanks this. -
Alright I’m Done with that idea. I needed to be talked out of it, guess I’ll be dragging a 53’ slider around. Thanks a lot for the input fellas

To OP Son- sorry for the tread hijack..
DL550cat, Rontonio, & Beast-
Thank you all for the replies, & info that had not even crossed my mind of poor resale value, possible 5th wheel damage, & more looks from the fuzz.. -
a 51 with a 10' top deck and can-locks and a 18" pin and a 41' pin to axle setting with a rear slide may be the minimum. that leaves 7' overhang when closed and 2.5' open
