Easy, killer!!! Company truck. It's a 4900ex daycab. It's a glider, it'll have a 6nz Cat, set at 550hp. Behind that will be a 10 speed (I wasn't totally in favor of this, but we gotta save some weight, and the boss wants to phase out the 13 speed). 3.70 full locking rears. 220 wheelbase, durabrite wheels, all polished aluminum.

It's really not much different from my current ride, just a smaller transmission and lower gear ratio. And lockers.

I'll post pics when we get it

Had a carrier bearing explode on me tonight. This is the second one for this truck in less than 200000 miles. Now I'm stuck in a Freightshaker Century class until they find the culprit.. This SUCKS!!!!

Found what we think is the cause of my carrier bearing failure today. Apparently the cross member holding the bracket that the bearing attatches to was welded a little off center. So when the driveline was in place, the carrier was pulling against the driveline and putting stress on the bearing. So now we wait for a new crossmember. Gonna be a long week next week riding around in the Freightshaker

I wish I could keep an alignment in my truck. Between gravel roads, broken pavement, frost heaves and having to run chains on the steer axle the tires just suffer. I had checked my front axle in Alaska and I had a 1/16" toe in after hitting the pot hole on Hwy 37 it was a 1/4" toe out. The right steer tire seemed to start having issues after running 100 plus miles on chains and the left steer got eaten up by the toe being out.

I just sold my summer tires with 8/32"and bought eight new all position tires and replaced the steers as well. I took the winter tires to get recapped for the next two winters. I have local guys paying me $125.00 a piece for my used tires. Instead of running them out and getting $20.00 for casings I run two seasons and sell them. I got about 15 tires in the barn right now to sell.

Wow this thread went dead....quick update, I started running my new 4900 glider in August. Been great so far, I only have 22000 miles on it though. But...

For some unknown reason, the Western Star God's decided to get rid of the air vents on the side of the dash. There was a small vent on the side of the dash that would blow air into the doors, which kept the side windows from fogging up. I guess they figured it's not needed, and seeing out the side windows isn't necessary. It really sucks on a foggy rainy night when you gotta open the windows to make a turn, and are rewarded with a face full of rain water.

There's also a leak on the right side of the cab when it rains. I think the rain is getting in the fresh air duct right behind the air cleaner on the right side, which then runs inside and runs across the floor. So when it rains and the truck is parked, everything that sits on the floor needs to go to higher ground.

Hopefully we can get it to the dealer later this month to address the leak, and maybe they can tell me why my side windows fog up in rain....

Overall though, I love it. The rattles that my last one had from new are non existent in this one, the HVAC controls work as they should, and the heater motor is quiet. So it's not all bad.

I see this thread went quiet. Me, I just give up listing my issues and failures with this 4900. I would overload this web site.

I found the body builder manuals by Western Star online and figured out how to turn off my daylight running lamps and cut the red wire that overrides the four way flashers when you step on the brakes.

Also got the light under the bed fixed and the two lights in the side boxes that hadn't worked in over a year. I was unable to find the wiring diagram with DTNA, but did it the old fashioned way by trouble shooting. After plugging all the wires back in at the door switches, adjusting the bent brackets on side doors and replacing all the bulbs the lights came on. I finally found my sleeper fuse panel under the bed too. Nicely hidden under a cover by the sleeper battery isolator.

The heated windshields are wired as well and have individual switches in the overhead for each windshield. The windshields are $100.00 more per side. It should help the poor defrost system and prevent wipers from iceing up.
