Garmin ELD unit

You have to have GARMIN DEZL 780 or 785, otherwise you need a phone.
the ELD works with the others such as 580 but somehow you still need the app on phone or tablet. (I am not sure what that is about) but I am sure of the 780 & 785 it is on Garmin's website

I really would like to know if GARMIN ELD is working better now. We had Omnitrac crap and really need to switch before contract ends.
How is it going with all of you?
Do any of you use the DEZL 780 or 785cam? this one is supposed to fully work with the ELD without the app.

Well, finally got a tablet and built a mount for it...today is the 1st day with the ELD turned on (as an "exempt driver", of course...still on paper, just feeling it out). Not happy with the fact that in order to connect to the GPS, you've got to have the smartlink app (which isn't available for my tablet). I thought you just bluetooth synched with the phone, but nope. So, I'm not connected to the GPS. Not that big of a deal, except now I've got to figure out how to disable the old HOS app on the stupid gps since it's not all synched up. Anyway, day #1 seems to be going OK and so far, it's done precisely what it ought to do.

I like that I can turn off WiFi & mobile data (everything except bluetooth) and it's still working fine. Eases my mind a little not being "connected" going down the road...not vulnerable to hacking that way.
