Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Man your in the wrong place for that kind of talk. Lumper is right there with Tax QAgent and DOT man if not worse as far as i am concerned un regulated un taxed free loaders only thing worse is the places that make you use them you ordered it want it you take it off my job is driver not freight handler and no CDL doesn't stand for COMBINATION DRIVER LUMPER
-
when people would ask me about lumping my own load I tell them I do not have that endorsement on my CDL so I do not know how to do it.
My job it to get it to you in one peice not unload it for you.
Besides my company would only give me peanuts compaired to the lumper fees they paid for so I just let the company pay for the lumper.
We have to turn in a receipt from the lumper service and they use them all the time so I could not make up a phony receipt. -
While in High School I spent all of my free time in the weight room so sitting in the seat all week driving from the midwest out to the coast and back started getting to me. I found myself needing to exercise and I didn't mind lumping my own loads. It gave me a decent workout twice-a-week breaking down 26 pallets into more than 60 pallets sometimes.
I drove for a company that allowed the driver to decide if they wanted a lumper. If you chose to hire a lumper the driver would be responsible for paying the fees. The company would then reimburse the driver when the trip pack was processed. Well I found a loophole in their policy that I was almost obligated to utilize. The gist of it went something like this... As long as the paperwork to hire a lumper was filled out properly and turned in with the proper trip pack, the driver was reimbursed for the lumper service (even if no money was deducted from the driver's account for hiring a lumper). My weekly settlements were beautiful because I didn't mind at all paying top dollar for a lumper.
P.S. Eating right, drinking almost nothing but water and lumping my own loads at delivery helped me to lose 75 lbs. over the course of a year. Talk about win/win!
just my $.02 -
Thank you for your kind words!!

Well; if you got a hand gun any dark alley....

I wasn't really serious but lumpers aren't honest . Many of them work for cash and don't report the income . They blackmail you into paying them if you want to get unloaded without a long delay . Union warehouses won't let anyone unload unless they have a union card . Lumping is illegal in most cases and not a job for an honest man .

During my driving years,I had good and bad experiences with lumpers.Worst time was north of Boston at a United Grocery warehouse, lumper bill was $350.and it took them 9 hours to unload m,y trailer. Glad my company paid for it. The best setup was in SouthHaven,MS,at a large grocery whse. Parked and slept all night in their lot. They called me on the CB with my door assignment. The lumpers unloaded my trailer in about an hour and billed the shipper. No fuss no muss.

Buy a cb radio, If your in Vegas the trucks along with the gallery are on ch.19. The look uop the address for the cold storage in the area. Your probablly not going to get to great of recieption from the shippers and recievers, since You will be in competition with them. Also try call the trucking companies direct. WHen I worked for IWX they had lumpers around the country most were privateers. The better trucking companies really do not want the driver unloading, they want the driver to be ready to drive.
