Since you answered my last question so quickly I have a couple of others if you would not mind. If I purchase my truck outside the state where I reside I will not pay sales tax. I was told that if I register the truck in my home state they will collect the sales tax when I register it which I confirmed. I was also told that if I use the Ill LANDSTAR company plates my home state will not collect the sales tax. Is this correct?
Ca has now passed a law that any truck coming into the state must have 2007 emssion standards however they do not enforce it because what I was told by a dealer in CO is that the technology does not exist. I was considering buying a 2007 or later to avoid any problems in CA in the future. Do you have any knowledge ref this emission requirement? -
Shares of trucking and logistics company Landstar System Inc. leaped Monday amid a broader market rally, as an analyst said the company remains "well positioned to prosper as other companies fail."
Stifel Nicolaus analyst John G. Larkin said Monday he expects the company to benefit by adding new customers and gaining market share as other companies file for bankruptcy amid slumping demand.
Still, the next few months should be challenging for the company and others as the jilted economy continues to slow, he said. Larkin lowered his earnings per share estimates for Landstar this year and next, citing decelerating revenue. He now expects 2008 earnings per share of $2.11, compared with a previous expectation of $2.16 per share and a consensus estimate of $2.17 per share, according to a poll by Thomson Reuters. Larkin projects 2009 earnings per share of $2.20, down from a previous prediction of $2.24 per share and a consensus view of $2.26.
The analyst also said that revenue seems to be falling further this month and should be down compared with last year.
But Larkin remained optimistic about the company's ability to grow as other companies succumb to tough market conditions. He kept his "Buy" rating and $45 target price.
Shares of Landstar jumped $4.80, or 15.4 percent, to $36 in afternoon trading. -
My current job is getting very slow! Im working 3 or 4 days aweek. I have one of those jobs if you can get away from home base you can stay out a while. However the loads are getting so slim Im only working 3 or 4 days per week and even with that its not much.
I have talked to alot of LS drivers over the years and knew that was my next move. Im looking at buying a truck. I cant find a good driving job so I guess Ill buy one. IM only interested in buying if I can go to landstar. My question is this.... Are you BCO doing ok? I have heard and read both good and bad. the truck Im looking at after money down will give me a payment of 1000.00 mo. i feel thats a safe payment. If the economy and freight was better I would look at more truck.
I wanna believe that the Negative info I hear is from the drivers that are "spolied" and only wanna run specific loads or specific routes. Me personaly Im ok with just about any load that keeps me moving. long short to or away from home! times are gonna be tuff this year I dont care who you drive for! A 300 mile load is better then sitting in a truck stop waiting on a better one!
Im gonna make my decision this week so PLEASE PLEASE HELP!
I have owned a truck before, but it was better times, better economy
Gatorhcouch Thanks this. -
My payment when I started was $900.00. (Safe range.) $1000 should be fine.
Sometimes its smarter to sit than to take a 300-mile load. Sometimes it's smarter to take the 300-mile load.
Shouldn't always take a load just to keep moving.
Can't haul freight for cheap cause running your truck is never cheap.
Times are tuff all around. I came home a week ago and I'm home for the Winter break. Prolly until the 1st of Feb. Freight will pick up again. It's historically slow right now.

I am very close to purchasing a truck to work for Landstar. I am looking at one in that has a C13 engine. I use to drive one for a company and it seemed to use more oil, About 2.5 to 3 gallons per 10,000 miles at 70 mph. At 62 it seemed to use about about 1.5 gallons of oil per 10000 miles. Two other company trucks had engine problems about 350,000 with bearings going out and one of those two had a hole in the side of the engine.
Should I stay away from this engine? -
