Need advice here folks, got a cat c15 1068700 miles on it spun cam bearing head no good and cam shaft. Mechanic pulled oil pan down and everything at the bottom looks good. When I bought the truck owner said he did a over haul on it. Should I just replace head and cam?

Who did the overhaul and when? If a Cat shop or truck dealer did it there should at least be some kind of warranty. If the previous owner did it himself there should at least be parts invoices for proof.

Many crankshaft bearings are date stamped. If the date stamp is close to the date of engine manufacture you were most surely lied to.

The few CATS I been into were not date stamped. Though I know almost every thing used to be.

Spun bearings any where make me nervous. Them little metal pieces is hard to find and create hell. Also if the bearings are not date stamped I have seen close to million mile factory bearings look new. Especially mains, but if you roll that top one out and look at the tab you will see it starting to wear off. When it does the bearing slips cuts off oil passage and from there you have a major issue. No paperwork no overhaul I don't know anyone that looses a big receipt like that

Funny thing you mentioned wore out, when I had my clutch replace and transmission gone thru last year..... they had to drop the pan when they resealed the back plate on my E model, they found some metal debri too. Go figure...400,000 miles later after a inframe(with receipts) on a dropped valve..... there was still debri left over.

Oxbow, wore out and spsauerland Thank this.

You never get all debris out unless it comes out of frame, disassembled, put in solvent or hot tank and blow out every oil gallery.
