You can take it out with the hood on, but then you have to remove the fan and fan hub to clear it. I have done it both ways. Hell even installed my engine with the hood on ! But this fat boy doesn't like being a contortionist with the hood on !!

I'm bad to pull the hood and steer tires right off the bat. I have a couple of home made two legged stools with holes in the leg that line up with wheel studs. Instant jack stands to boot. Im not tall or skinny getting things opened up helps me alot.

Me too, but trying to save a little time this go around. Major engine work front tire come off.

Well about that, funny you should ask. We all get sworn to secrecy and have to learn a special handshake and secret code to gain access to the answers.

That sounds like a fun toy. I have an Unlimited 2 door wrangler on a 2.5 lift and 33s- nothing crazy just clean and simple to retain practicality for now. Long term, a larger long arm lift kit to get more articulation and a better approach angle, bigger tires, stronger axles, and maybe an engine swap to a small diesel like a 4bt cummins for low end torque to help when on trails and well because diesels are fun. Any recommendations for things you would do to one?
oh and an on board air compressor.1951 ford, SAR, Shock Therapy and 3 others Thank this. -
I just realized my post said my truck was built for drag racing, which isn’t the case. Stupid IPad. I would not intentionally start with a 5300 lb vehicle for a strip setup. Especially since I knock those tires off so easy as it is. I would backhalf a 1978-80 Malibu, cage it, and do a lot of weight reduction so it could run sub 9s. Sorry for the oversight.

Ive always wanted a Wrangler, but never had one and don't know their strengths and weaknesses. First thing I would have to find out is if they're open diff or LSD. Open diff is useless on a 4x4. The old K5s stock, were open.OLDSKOOLERnWV, johndeere4020, 1951 ford and 2 others Thank this.

It says I have a trac-lock which implies an LSD, however the previous owner had it rebuilt so do not know if they redid it to oem.
Next time I get a day off I will jack it up and do the old tire test- if they spin in the same direction it is LSD, if they spin in opposite it is an open. Or when I do the axle seals, I will poke around for the identification plate.
But forgive my ignorance I thought lockers run via switches? Or is it some that run on switches and some that do not.1951 ford, Shock Therapy and Crusader66 Thank this.
