Another thing. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. The fact that the line went down and I wasn't able to load for Portland and instead re-booked for Hermiston check out what I would of run into if I were heading up I-5 N instead of taking the 97 N towards Hermiston.

This is why I like modern technology and my being an owner operator who has the ability to make my own decisions on the fly, without needing direction or specific involvement from anyone like a dispatcher, logistics manager, etc.
When the shipping clerk gave me the news about the product line going down, I stepped away from the window, asked a couple of drivers who were checking out how long they had been there, processed the info within a few seconds, opened up the DAT load board app on my phone and within a couple of minutes was talking to the broker agent who had the load I ended up taking.
Even though I wasn't in their system yet, the guy gave me the pick up number and said I could ask the shipping clerk if the load/product was ready. I stepped up to the window, asked and confirmed the load was ready.
He gave me the verbal, I docked and while they were loading my trailer I filled out their carrier packet on my cell phone via RMIS. Before I got the green light, I had received the RateCon via email, electronically signed it and was on my way.Prince Henry Stout, Oxbow, Tug Toy and 9 others Thank this. -

Semi truck crash closes all but 1 lane of I-5 in southern Oregon
CANYONVILLE, Ore. - A truck hauling a 178-foot long, 185,000 pound steal beam crashed Tuesday, closing all but one lane of Interstate 5 in southern Oregon.
The crash happened just after 2 p.m. as trucker James A. Vance, 44, of Philomath rounded a curve on I-5 southbound.
The trailer and heavy load rolled to the side, crashing into the center concrete divider on I-5, police said.
The truck, trailer and load came to stop across the southbound lanes. The impact pushed the center barrier into the left hand northbound lane.
Vance was not injured. Police cited Vance for Fail to Drive Within Lane.
Tug Toy and Shock Therapy Thank this. -
I would think due to length and weight, that load should have had escorts, front and rear, as well as steerable rear section.
Still, it is clear he was traveling to fast for the road.
The other question would be, if in fact it had a steering, who was running it and did they mess up.Broke Down 69, Scooter Jones, spyder7723 and 1 other person Thank this. -
