Hello everyone, I made a profile just to ask this question.

A few months ago, January 2018, I was involved in an accident where a car tried to pass me on my right side.

I was at a "T" intersection where I was coming to a dead end and had to turn either right or left. There is two lanes to turn left and one lane to turn right. My destination was at this intersection, where I had to make a right then an immediate right to get there. After I turned right at the dead end intersection, the street I was on is three lanes going each direction. I took up two of the three lanes ( the one closest to the curb and the middle Lane) to be able to complete my turn. A car wanted to pass me on my right side which caused him to hit me after I was committed to my right turn.

His car was totaled, we exchanged information and a few weeks later it came out that I was not at fault, he tried to pass me on my right while he had a third lane where he could have passed instead, and he was on his phone. But i received a letter from a law firm wanting to recover the damages that I caused. Can anyone give me advice?

So, were in the process of doing the FIRST right turn or the immediate SECOND right turn when you two hooked up? But regardless, the truck driver almost invariably get's faulted in these situations just for the simple fact the truck was changing his position laterally in the roadway and moved into the other vehicles path. The idea the other vehicle should have had enough sense not to be there is largely irrelevant in the eyes of a judge or an attorney or an insurance investigator for the car owner.

Ignore the letter your company will let you know if there is a problem and do not make any kind of statement to them

Forward the letter to your insurance agent/provider. Let them handle it.
    Good luck.

It's a trap. They are hopping you will pay some money or contact them and make a statement. forward the letter to your insurance provider. They can fight it out. That's why we pay insurance.

    1) Consult an attorney.

2)Do not speak of this till settled. If, for some reason this goes to court, any lawyer worth his salt, first thing they are going to do is pull social media and if you post even one detail dufferent than what you tell them, if you say 100 feet here, but tell them 90 feet, they will use it aganist you.

    3) see 1 & 2.

You're never "committed" to a turn. You can always stop. If you had been watching your mirrors, particularly the right one, this could have been prevented. This is what the law firm is going to say.
