Also, yes I do plan on getting an amp in the eventual future, yes I know that can get questionable as far as FCC legality goes, and no, I'm not worried about it.![]()

That is not how you do dual antennas. Your impedance is wrong. You need a special co-phased coax harness to make that work. I wouldn't mess with it personally. My experience tells me those very nice antennas won't work well on that truck either. Unscrew one coax and screw it into the back of your radio until you can go see Jim at Hoods. I personally would not transmit on it until I had the swr checked either. It is O.K. to listen to it.
delta5, slim6596 and Metalshadow Thank this. -
I'll take care of that shortly, thanks for the heads up. And I'll definitely get with Jim as soon as I can get back out that way

For what it's worth, when I was still running the Cobra, I had calibrated it the best that I could without opening it up and ran everything thru my Astatic swr meter and it all measured up properly, even with both antennas connected, and it appears to be good with the galaxy now

I can't imagine how. Jim will get you straight. Google the number for the restaurant at Hood's Trk Stop and ask them for Jim's number. It would be better to let him know when you are going to be there so he can plan for you.

Will do, and I'll get a few pics of both setups and the meter readings here shortly, maybe my understanding of this isn't quite what I was hoping for lol guess we'll see

Found the co-phase antenna cable and purchasing now
delta5 Thanks this. -
This is all with the DX 959, RF power all the way down, co-phase antenna cable, dual k40 20k watt antennas. Readings on the Galaxy are straight thru to the antennas without the meter being connected.

On the radio's meter it looks like the SWR is about 3, at least on my computer screen. Is that right? Or is that the watt value?
On the Astatic meter, do you have the power level set at 100W when the ratio's power is set at its lowest potential?
Edit: Never mind, I now see your lower pictures. One shot looks like your output is at 1.5 watts with a 1.1 SWR. That looks good to me!Last edited: Apr 9, 2018

A couple of suggestions for you. If the galaxy radio your using is stock, then it should be a 4 watt radio on high power. So you should have your external meter on the 10 watt setting to be more accurate. Also you need to test your power/swr with the radio on high power (4watts), and your motor running. You will get a little different readings just running off a 12 volt system, verses the 14 volts that the alternator puts out while the motors running.
Metalshadow Thanks this.
