I love the part where they say it's unknown whether the driver received any citations. I know of at least one regulation he violated: 49 CFR 391.11(b)(2).

You know: that little thing about being able to speak English?

So, was there anything on those racks that may have altered the fire chiefs speach?

    i don't think so

    (2) Can read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records;

also, i guess he didn't understand to wear sunglasses?

i don't feel the least bit sorry for him. i hope he got charged with things like,

    "leaving the lane of travel"

    and

    "failure to maintain vehicle control"

look it sucks we got all these foreignors entering the country who refuse to learn our language.

but if you're a freaking fire chief and you can't be bothered to take two minutes, get out your smartphone, and just go to google and type in "translate" then you probably suck at technology and shouldn't be a fire chief in the first place!

it is literally easier than paying online bills to tap out a few simple questions on your smartphone, and let the mice run in their wheels over at google to spit out a translation for the other bozo to see and respond to!

i don't see why any public service person needs to learn a second language, when especially they were born in THE USA.

you wanna come here, then ######, YOU LEARN our language...

and besides, how do YOU even know the chief HAS a smart phone?

i don't..i really don't i have a simple old fashion FLIP phone....why should i (or any public servant, pay money just for a freaking phone.>??

WE DO NOT NEED to cater to those who are ignorant to learning English, yet want our money....they want to live on "Easy St."?

    THEN LEARN to speak ENGLISH..

yeah they should learn. but not everyone will learn.

just like you shouldn't drink too much, smoke too much, engage in premarital relations, and all of that. the best you can do is adapt to a depressing reality and minimize the damage.

besides. why would the chief NOT have a smart phone? this is 2018! i live in new hampshire and landlines are rare... what if there's an emergency and he's away from home, how does his dept contact him?!?

he doesnt hafta learn nothing. google does all the work anyway.

this kinda thinking is, and i hate to say it, this kinda thinking is why the firefighters radios on 9/11 weren't working so they couldn't communicate and that cost lives! people figured, "oh why should firefighters have radios? they don't need them, they have ladders!" little did they know that eventually a building or two would get hit that were too HIGH for the ladders, and their disregard for available technology cost them BIG on that day!

if a rookie trucker like me gets issued a TABLET for my job, then the fire CHIEF can get issued a PHONE for his job!
