Not getting out well...

I have a brand new uniden and brand new magnetic mount antenna. Im only getting out about a block and a half. The SWR is just under 2. Any help would very much appreciated.

 

How about a few more details: model of Uniden; make, model and length of the antenna; where the antenna is placed on the vehicle and type of vehicle; how the radio get its 12v power; any other pertinent details, especially how you determined the reach is only 1.5 blocks. How is the receive?

 

Have your radio checked with a watt meter to find out how many watts of power you are transmitting. Cb radio should be close to 4 watts output.

 

Seriously a block and a half? I can hear my neighbor yelling at his wife that distance. Antenna must be defective, that would be first place I would look.

 

I have a Uniden 520xl that dk's 2w's and swings to 4w's...with a Predator 10K antenna, and have no problem reaching out 15-18 miles from the west side of Dallas to the east side in the middle of the day on channel 19!

...ok...I do have a 1x2 behind the radio...but nothing real big.

 

Mosfet amp or old school 2290 pushing two 2879's ?

as for the Mirage, think I've gone threw 4 or 5 radios since that one....needed one that would fit in the dash of my Tacoma, and the Uniden 520xl fit the bill.
