call their recruiting office and ask them. Also, could get cdl from third party and still go to Roehl. That's the route I took, and I'm going to be going thru orientation in early Feb

    Hi cdlkid
I am from Ma. also and was wanting to go with Roehl, and they were interested, till they found out I was from Ma. They are still interested but told me I would have to get my cdl license here in Ma. Something about our crazy rmv rules not letting you transfer a cdl license from another state. Good luck to you!

I am definitely not an expert on which co. to be looking at. You should still talk to Roehl and see what they say. I believe Roehl has a tuition reimbursement plan if you go ahead and get your cdl on your own. Bad thing is you have to come up with the tuition money up front. Good thing is you don't have to commit to any company for a lengthy contract as to pay them for training you for your cdl. I think Ma. makes it very hard for you to go with a training co. because of having to transfer your out of state cdl back to Ma.

I too am beginning my trucking career and have commited to Roehl. I have spoken with many companies and Roehl has been the most professional of the lot. DuWayne in recruiting has been a pleasure to deal with; he always returns calls promptly, has answers and presents himself and Roehl in a positive, professional light. I am really impressed with their safety record and attitude towards safety and training. Also their pay plan, while not the absolute best, affords a good, safe, hard working driver the ability to make a very respectable living. I am really looking forward to working for this firm.

I went the private CDL school route; a 320 hour, 7 week course in Central NY. I graduate on 1/13/09 and test for my CDL here in New York on 1/14. My road instructors tell me I'm ready now and I feel pretty good about my ability to drive the truck, even my shifting has taken a quantum leap forward in the last couple of sessions. Now I just need to perfect my parallel parking as it's a requirement here in New York. I also got my HazMat and Metal Coil endorsements as Roehl requires that of New York based drivers along with a passport or enhanced license to allow for entry into Canada.

Training in Syracuse weather will definitely be a plus as we drive nearly everyday in some sort of weather: snow, freezing rain, snow, blowing snow, blinding snow, lake effect snow, heavy snow, light fluffy snow, snow/rain mix, wet heavy snow, more snow - you get the picture. When I get out on the road with Roehl there won't be much I haven't seen (except for nice, clear, dry, pothole free roads).

I start in Gary IN on 2/9 but hoping for a 2/2 start in Gary or Marshfield. schlepper004 and randyd which Feb. orientation are you enrolled in? It would be nice to have a connection with another new student as we work our way through orientation and begin our careers.

Best of luck to everyone here and let's hope for a happy, prosperous, and SAFE 2009. Keep your fingers crossed and we'll see the economy recover and freight traffic pick up to provide us all with plenty of miles.

    Best Regards,

    O G:Trailer:

Roehl won't train students from Illinois, Connecticut or Massachusetts. You will leave RDTC with a Wisconsin CDL, and those 3 states have laws which make it nearly impossible to transfer the CDL back home.

Illinois is the worst, because obviously being right next to Wisconsin, Illinois is a place where Roehl needs drivers. Connecticut doesn't hurt too much, because ever since Roehl shut down the yard in Groveton NH, the frieght in the "far" northeast has dropped off a bit.

Anyways, if you live in those 3 states you will need a CDL before coming in to Roehl. You can get it on your own, and then go through RDTC, or, you can go through a local school and come on with Roehl as a student.
