Then work in an industry where your time isn’t regulated if that’s what is important to you. If we could transfer time to other people I’d give you the 20-30 hours I don’t use every week.

In 20 years (up until Dec when I started running an eld) I don’t think I ever had an honest log unless it was a day off. But I knew the consequences. I knew the regulations put forth, I never complained about the government telling what I couldn’t do. I just did it. And I knew what would happen if I got busted. You can abide by the regulations or live with the fines. I just think it’s comical how in 80-some years of the hours of service being around that it wasn’t until last fall that the 4th amendment was brought up as a last resort. All an eld is is a way to record your hours of service. It doesn’t track anyone more or less than an true and honest paper log would.
Maybe if we, as an industry, hadn’t been so willing to work more for less for so long our wages would’ve better kept up with inflation. You don’t see railroad workers complaining that their time is regulated. But then again the average salary for an engineer is double what the average pay is for a driver.
All that being said, I love my glider. Best of luck to the OP finding a place to go to work with one.joey8686, BoostedTeg, nax and 2 others Thank this. -
Right I'd believe that if there was regulations on how long you could drive your personal vehicle, but you can drive that for as long as you want and nobody gives a rat ###Bean Jr. Thanks this.

Rocking a 1990 ford taurus baby, pretty much mint too for the age. I get some head turns but not exactly the good kind haha.
And yes my dad and few relatives that drive all run old iron -
They have been impinging on our rights to drive our personal vehicles ... didn't used to be a crime to drive drunk. I don't need the government to tell me when I'm capable of driving based on some arbitrary number ... I know how much I can handle.

That's not what I said, or even thought I implied. Sorry it sounded that way.
I meant that someone that buys a glider just to get around the ELD is highly likely to do it so they don't have the ELD making them more legal. Note I didn't say fully legal, just cuts out most of the gross violations.
Simply running old trucks and not running an ELD as a side effect is cool. I like seeing old trucks out there. It means someone actually kept up on maintenance and repairs and will last a good long while more.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
Difference is scale. An average 4 wheeler doesn't drive (just to pull a number out) 10 hours a day 6 days a week. And there are laws preventing a 4 wheeler from driving too long. Fatigued driving and distracted driving (from drowsiness) are just two.
Also, since the HOS regs have been around on the Earth longer than you, it's not like you could not have known about then before getting a CDL. -
Just because I know about them don't mean I have to like them, and 4 wheelers don't have any laws regarding exactly how long you are allowed to drive and nobody enforcing it.

Elog=overhead
Paper=no expenses; ever!
Something to ponder.Bean Jr. Thanks this.
