The megas also come from letting any imbecile with a pulse get a CDL and drive. If all the megas had to actually go through an insurance company and not self insure that'd cut more than a few of their drivers out.

I know a lot of drivers from back then that talk about all the time. Deregulation started in the late 1970s and kicked in during the early '80s.
-
That is ridiculous, inflation calculators leave massive details out.
Are you suggesting that you think the lifestyle that would be possible today earning $3702.46 per week (Or $192,527.92 per year) was the lifestyle that the average truck driver could live in the 1970's? By the way, I said the very top jobs were 4 to 500 per week.
If you believe that I have a nice bridge in Brooklyn that I would sell you real cheap! -
Reread what he said. 400 back then is roughly 1800 today, and yes, that is believable.
-
A pre 1965 quarter is 90% silver. Today it is worth around $3.00 in silver. A post 1965 quarter, even a nice shiny 2018,is worth $0.25

I've heard them talk about it but none of them would go back to it. I don't know much about it I guess but from what I've heard it took to get numbers and loads we'd have nothing but megas if those rules where still around.
-
And that is equally as relevant as the "inflation calculator" that claims truck drivers could live like doctors in "The good ol 70's"
-
True enough, but neither wage estimate includes benefits which is where todays wages are burned.
But lets use the $1851.23
That is $96,263.96 per year plus benefits today.
Same question, do you think the 1970's truck drivers could live the lifestyle that a 2018 person can live right now if they earn $96,263.23 per year plus benefits?
I don't know of any truck drivers in the 1970's who could afford the lifestyle that a 6 figure income could garner today, not even close; but I do know some drivers who earn 6 figures today. -
Certainly, what makes you think they couldn't?

There is a fps tracking requirement in the mandate. In driving it is to be accurate to 1,000 feet and off duty, pc, it is to be accurate within 10 miles.
I know, you'll say that the tracking is more accurate, but I'm not mandated by the government to carry my phone. And second, if the Feds want those records, they'll have to subpoena them.
As far as 1,000 feet accuracy, I live in Chicago, and have worked for a carrier in Chicago. My home and yard were 20 miles apart, but both in Chicago. My paper log said Chicago, so I could be been home or at the yard. With 1,000 feet accuracy, we'd know which it was.
That a government mandate can track you, even to 10 miles in your own vehicle when you're not working, if that doesn't bother you, then you've already given up caring about your rights. Suspected criminals have the right to be free from this, why shouldn't I as a law abiding citizen?Last edited: Apr 11, 2018
