I wouldn't trust the tubing to stay in place. It won't be back in very far. Using tow pins would be the safest.

I don't know that a link from a 5/8" chain will reach far enough back to catch a hole or not??? Can try it, but I suspect it may not.

As for chains, I've got a 5/16" transport chain that has been used to pull weight well exceeding its designed ratings, without ever breaking or even stretching a link. Very impressive little critter. :biggrin_255: One truck I pulled off of the ice in the driveway weighed up ~40k w/ full locking rears. I was on dry pavement with my dually and walked him out at an idle. :biggrin_255:

I don't know if you moved your truck yet but when I worked at Southwest Kenworth Inc. in the late 70's early 80's the new trucks would come in stacked that way. We used the stock tow pins in both sides to unload them and never had a problem. Most of the time we used an old crane in the yard or had a tow truck come and lift them off. The only bad thing is the tow pins are big bucks from Kenworth, even the special pins that hold them in the frames are crazy priced. If you can find some used ones that would be the way to go. I dont think its a good idea to make something that sticks out of the hole too far because the farther away from the edge of the casting the lift point is, the more leverage you would be putting against it.

Well, it's supposed to arrive tomorrow (sat). Hopefully the stock pins are in the truck. My neighbor was going to lend me his but couldn't find them.

If I have to I should be able to run a chain straight through the mount and catch the frame behind it. Have to see what happens.
