If the warranty is from some third party mechanical insurance provider, I would save your money. Our experience with those companies is that they make you do all kinds of unnecessary testing until they find something slightly out of spec to find a way out of covering the failure. Then you are stuck with paying all our diagnostic time plus the actual repair.

I was a service manager for an International dealership. They will repair that pump, but you are correct, if not caught it will grenade the engine. Cummins will not repair that.
They are also blowing turbos, and the remans are failing as well.

Guys, you are the best. TTR is an invaluable resource because of people like you. This is a copy of the e-mail I sent to the salesman..........

Chris.....we have a real problem. That particular motor has a bad fuel pump that not only goes bad around 350k, it also ruins the engine when it does. I spoke to the folks at Cummins and, while they would not give me any service information about that specific engine, they did tell me that that serial number was in the group of bad engines. I have a friend that had his fixed and he said once they put in the new fuel pump with some sort of new and improved component, all was well. But, again, Cummins would not tell me if this specific engine had been repaired.

So, the long and short of it is, unless I can get some kind of assurance in writing that the engine has been properly repaired, I can't do a deal.

Looks like I'm gonna stay with Detroit. Thanks again to all.
