Quick couplers on air brake system

The glad hands are not quick release enough? They take less than 3 seconds. They just attach to the back of the truck when not in use. I can't see how you could improve on that.

 

Man, that is just lazy! And I believe that is in the regs somewhere about where those can and cannot be used. And I #### sure would not want them on my brake/air system!

I know what you want to do. Just reposition the lines. That you can do. Just no quick releases.

If the female ends of the quick releases were coming out of the tractor it could provide an added level of saftey by preventing air from escaping when the trailer is disconnected. Honestly I've always thought the quick disconnects were a much more secure connection than glad hands.

 

I don't know how legal, but show trucks use them off the rear crossmember to put the air line under the trailer.

 

The orange flat top on roadworks mfg has both. i tried to find pitcher on there web site, but it didn't show the back. the man that own's this truck is a friend, couldn't get him on the phone but when i do i will ask him what the DOT says to him.

 

Never had the DOT say anything about them. Neither has anyone else I know that uses them. And they dont leak. They also add a bit of security on a dropped trailer as most cant just hook up easily. They'd have to get the tools out to change over and have a set of glads to put on.
