its relitivley simple to check the ecm parameters, they use a a funky looking round conectorthat plugs in under your dash( on a KW its the drivers side) that feeds back into a laptop via usb cable. They then type in your engine type and all the data comes up thru the ecm to the laptop. Then they can see how many idle hours
average mph
what your rev limiter is set at
what the truck is mph is set it etc.

 

I'd like to see em try to check my ecm!! lol they would probably just turn me around at the border like CA will before long.

how do they deal with mechanical motors? or can you just not run them?

 

Well this law only applies to trucks built after a certain date. I don't remember what that date is off the top of my head tho. Also if you are willing to come up I believe there is about a 6month grace period where they will just give out warnings and not fines.
