Go up I5 to exit 57 and talk to Weigh Rite about having scales installed on the truck. If you are using drop axles to increase weight capacity, Wa. will be very strict about weights. Including any and all considerations having to do with bridge law restrictions. Number of axles means nothing if you don't have the correct wheel base.

If it was my own truck I would do just that, some of the trucks have scales but they have been damaged one way or another. I brought this up at the safety meeting yesterday in fact that the scales need repaired and that all the trucks and trailers should have them and in working order. The boss complained about how fragile the electronic scales he has now are and I replied that the tractors at least should have the simple air scales. All but one truck in the fleet are air ride and that alone would help a lot. The trailers are all spring ride so they won't work there obviously but electronic scales will and despite needing repairs often would save a lot of tickets.

For the cost of that one ticket, you could have installed 4-5 complete sets of air suspension gauges.

There isn't any cheap way to add scales to a spring ride vehicle.

You can actually put "scales" on any air ride equipped truck or trailer for less than $100. All you need is a $20 air gauge, some tubing, and a few fittings. Just put a standard 120 psi air gauge in the air bag circuit, weigh the truck loaded a few times to find out what PSI equals your max axle weight, and never load above that PSI.

The truck I drive mostly will run right at 68 PSI with 34K on the tandems. Of course, air bag size and suspension design will make every truck read different.

See posts #12 & #14 and I'll add that I don't drive the same truck every day, I drove 3 different trucks just last week.

I’d probably just look for another job if your boss isn’t willing to make an effort so you can do your job halfway legal.

Well it's not easy when you live where I do, I'm way out in the sticks and it's close to home.
It's also an hourly paid job working days with weekends off, Saturday work for OT is often available but optional usually. I get time and a half over 40 and am paid pretty well, making about $70K a year and all that's not easy to replace out here. All I am looking for is answers to the question asked here,no job is perfect from what I've seen especially in this trade. lol

Weight tickets dont go on your record. They only get money from your pockets.

    Cheap and easy.
Airgauge on the truck and a laminated card specific to each truck in said truck.
Not perfect by any means but will help a little.

Don’t expect that excuse to hold up in court if you try to contest a ticket.
