For anyone who needs a laugh, I re-wrote 18 Wheels and a Dozen Roses to 2018 standards and posted it in Experienced Truckers Advice. I can’t fabricate stuff like my brother, but I can rewrite any song and make it about trucking
(Of course that song is already about trucking, I made it about today’s declining trucking)

Got a question for all you lifers...
What exactly does a boost leak sound like? Or better yet what would a high-pitched whistling and rushing air / ringing noise most likely be? I’m thinking boost leak but I’ve checked EVERYTHING and can’t find any troubled spots. It doesn’t sound “mechanical” if that makes any sense and there’s no lights on the dash indicating anything being wrong... I’m thinking it’s a boost leak but I’m definitely not the best mechanic trouble shooter.
I’ll add this sound only occurs when I lean into the go pedal. It’s not there at idle.
On my way to Washington state so that’s fun.Shock Therapy, 1951 ford, Crusader66 and 3 others Thank this. -
Sounds like a boost leak to me. They usually kinda whistle or whine when the turbo is spooled up.

Yup. Can't always "see" the issue, but the sound is an indicator. What does your pyro say @stwik? Does your oil temp rise faster than it did previously? Low on power? Little more smoke than it used to have? Louder than normal?Shock Therapy, johndeere4020, 1951 ford and 5 others Thank this.

You won't hear turbo whistle?
I guess what I'm asking is how you determine if it's turbo whistle bs boost leak whistleShock Therapy, johndeere4020, 1951 ford and 3 others Thank this. -
It's louder, n more woosh whistle.
Edit to add: same kinda sound as when you have the radio off n the windows down n you're rolling along n put your foot into it a little bit; what you hear as the vacuum whoosh whistle sucking into your intake breather right outside the window.Feedman, Shock Therapy, johndeere4020 and 6 others Thank this. -
I haven’t had a load on her yet so I can’t really tell if there’s a loss of power... it feels a little bogged down.
All gauges are normal. Granted — flat land — no load.
It sounds exactly like rushing air to me. Probably a boost leak — someone probably didn’t put her back together properly joy to me

I am with everyone else regarding boost leak, but.... didn't they just rebuild that engine? And they may have put a new turbo on it? If the performance isn't bad I wonder if the new turbo just has a different sound.
I have no experience with emission engines though, so the sounds produced by those systems are foreign to me.
Edit to add: If you ever blow a boot going to the CAC you will never forget that sound!4mer trucker, Feedman, Shock Therapy and 7 others Thank this. -
You may be able to find it just looking at the air-to-air boots. Maybe someone didn’t get a clamp tight or got one on crooked and it’s not making a good seal. Just go from the turbo to the CAC, then on the other side from the CAC to the intake. Check every clamp. If one is loose just tighten her up.
If it wasn’t doing it before they worked on it then it’s bound to be something simple.4mer trucker, Shock Therapy, johndeere4020 and 6 others Thank this.
