I have been with Covenant for over a year now and it will not make 2 years. For a few months now I have been thinking about leaving Covenant for various reasons. One is pay. I have been with them for almost 2 years and I am only making .29cpm.
Now just a week ago Covenant announced that it is mandatory that everyone take the per diem, they took away local haul pay, plus bonuses are being taken away and now on top of a $500 pet deposit, they will now charge a $250 annual fee for people with pets. It seems to me when a company takes away opportunites for a driver make money, charges the driver more money, and or takes money away from people that they are not going to be in business very much longer and they are grasping at straws.
I have had enough of Covenant...If you are looking to Covenant for employment. I would say...do yourself a big favor and go somewhere else. I'm at my limit of BS.

again, old post, but a message for future posts...........there are 2 companies with similar names. Star Transport is in Morton Illinois, not the Star in Memphis. Star in Morton has the red logo on the tractors and trailers. the other star uses blue logos and is called Star transportation i do believe.

I wouldn't go with any company that gets bought out by those scumbags at covenant.

Not Sure what Star starts at now. I was with with them for two years, just quit last week, and was making 41cpm,if you actually get it.They will dock your pay for things that are not within your control, with no appeal, ( and they don't tell you). Your dispatcher enters notes on your record, but they don't save any actual messages from the Quall Comm. When you see that your pay is short it becomes a He said-She said situation. This has been happening to a substantial number of Drivers. Examples: as little as 30min. late for appointment(even if the customer doesn't complain), if you don't meet they idle time requirements, over speed requirements, over rev requirements, minimum mpg ( which is set at the level that the trucks were expected to get when they were new ) also no concerns on load weight, or if driving in mountains. They used to be a very good starter company, but, I would think twice about choosing them now. A lot of what happens depends on your dispatcher, but, they won't change your assigned dispatcher even if you have issues with them. Many of their tractors are older, with high mileage ( my last one had close to 800,000 miles). The last issue I had, which prompted my quitting, was a repair (brake) issue. The shop wanted me to pull a trailer that had malfunctioning brakes, with a 44,000lb load. I'll be very interested to see what my last paycheck will look like. PS: I did deliver the load, once the brakes were fixed.
