Hello All,
I just got off the phoen with usxpress, and western express. I was told since I won't need there cdl program(i'm paying my own way thru school)If I choose to go OTR If I only come home once a month for 3-5 days I would make 4k after taxes. Is this true? Western express claims after 1800 miles you get paid .50 cpm

Stay away from western !!!!!!! It's one of the worst companies to get involved with use the search function on here and read up on them.
And by the way you would be better off just going local from the beginning and building a year of seniority somewhere.Puppage Thanks this. -
I kinda of need the money so I have to go OTR. I was told they pay more. They told me if I'm out most of the time and only home 4-5 days a week I can get paid 4k a month due to me a paying for my own cdl

$4000 a month is not a lot of money. I have three drivers working for me. None had any over the road experience. One had a license from Swift but no experience in Class A. She had a year in Class B. The two others just had permits and I trained them. They average $2000 a week and find their own freight. That is just over twice what you are seeking. Don't settle, keep looking.
driverdriver and sam3106 Thank this. -
I meant to say 4k net. Either way your people are making more. How would I go about making 2k a week being over the road most of the time or regional. I talked to TMC transportation today. they told me I could ask for 27% of profit and I could come home on weekend. What I would do is spend 4-5 weeks out and then pick one weekend a month I guess.

Here's something else you need to know.
The income that recruiters quote to you is basically what you can potentially earn if everthing goes perfectly during the week.
If your real lucky it might happen one week a month for you.
Recruiters are as bad as used car salesman , say anything to get you in the seat. -
So if most recruiters lie, what can I base my decision on. I want to find a company that at minimum I can make 4k net if I work hard.
-
The chances of that happening for a new driver?
Slim to none.
As far as what recruiters say about income , cut in in half. -
If I can only make 2k a month working 60-70 hours a week I might as week find another career. I can't believe that I will only make 2k (half of what they state a month). Some people say you could make 3k a month the guy above your comment states 2k a week is possible and now you say 2k a month.Maybe I'm missing something here.

That guy is an o/o and that's what he pays the drivers in his other trucks. That's a different stitsuation.
I'll say this , realistically for a new driver on average you'll take home 600 to 800 a week at one of these large companies.
That's on average..
Not only that you need to concider how much it cost to live out here in the road.
It really takes awhile to make good money as an otr driver.
Can it happen for a new driver , sure but its rare.
