I am simply trying to get a Florida tag for my tractor (2007 International 9400). No trailer registration. Am I right in believing that I still fall under the 80,000 GVW category as far as registration fees go? That is over a thousand dollars. I was in hopes it went by actual weight of the truck itself. About 18,000 pounds which is only $177.
Thanks!

??
Are you going to go out of state of Florida?
If so you need an apportioned plate.KB3MMX Thanks this. -
That is all in the works but my temp tag is about to expire. We will probably work intrastate for a while before we take the next step. Right now we are DOT# only.
-
Your fee is based on gross vehicle weight rating not what it actually weighs. You will have to buy the 80,000 tag after you pay your IRS 2290.
-
Tag fees are assessed at MAX gross vehicle weight. This includes truck, trailer, and load. You will need to bump your number up to 80,000 lbs and pay the tag fees accordingly. Remember, you will only be legal within the state of FL. A non-apportioned plate only gives you intrastate access.

Intrastate is the business plan for right now. After I'm sure the guys I picked to run my contracting business are going to be OK it will be time to get the MC and the apportioned plate. Stay tuned for dozens of stupid questions as that approaches!

That's what we're here for.... well, most of us anyway!!

Have to register for your max gross. Florida allows you to split pay regular tags. December to May then May to December. Have to renew mine soon as this is the way I've been doing it.

Yes, tags are expensive. So are trucks. Just wait till you get to put a $5000 turbo on that International. I just paid $1400 for my FL IRP. The intrastate tag is a little cheaper. One year my IRP was over $1800, and I had three trucks that year. That sucked. Have you priced insurance yet?

We do have that covered, yes.
