I've been looking all over the nets to find out which one I need to put on my TSA Application Background check and still can't find out which one I need. Can anyone point me in the right direction.
So far I've just heard that H is for some states endorsement and they use X for other states endorsements. And if that's the only difference, How can I find out which one my state uses? Georgia by the way.
thanks.

H is Haz Mat X is Haz Mat plus tanker
Baack, Kabar and oldcornbinder Thank this. -
DQ is right, I have X because I have haz plus tanker.

Unless I am missing the point to your question here, ??????
Why don't you look on your CDL and see what endorsement it has on it?
The other two posters are right as to what the designations mean. -
Well I don't have the endorsement yet. I'm filling out paper work for the background check that's required to get the endorsement.
And thanks for the answers guy! So in other words if all I'm hauling is dry vans that might possibly need placards it's "H" and if I'm driving tanks with placards its "X"? -
I would put H. When i applied for My Hazmat I put H for the TSA application. When I sent to Secretary State (Michigan) to take hazmat test, I just spur of the moment went and took the tanker test as well. I ended up with X on my license afterwards.

Sweet, I start with Crete Carrier Corp on the 19th and I need to get my background check started by then, so I wanted to go ahead and do it.
Thanks again for the help guys. -
Don't wait too long - go ahead and get it started. It usually takes several weeks to get the checks back, depending on the state and the number of apps in the system at the time. Mine took about 3 weeks to get back.
-
Yeah, I'm going this Friday to get it done. Crete said as long as I have my receipt showing that I've got the process started is good enough for them.

OK, I understand now. Sorry for being so dense. . .

Well, yes, more or less. If you have the X endorsement, then you are good for tankers or dry vans with hazmat. If you just have the H, then dry van is all you can do.
Seems to me like it is just as easy to get the X right from the get-go, then you can use it as you need it. At least that is what I did. I've had the X endorsement since I first got my CDL. I've never been a tanker yanker, but I have hauled a lot of hazmat with dry vans. But the point is, that should it come up, I already have the endorsement.
And while right now, I am listing myself as an "ex-trucker," who knows what the future will bring. . .
With the economy the way it is I may not be able to be retarded er retired for ever. . .
