What do you mean you won't have anything to b##ch about? Surely you didn't forget about the four-wheelers??? We seem to be easy fodder. :biggrin_2551::biggrin_25523:

I do not have any figures for ya but I thought the majority of drivers who lasted past the three to five year mark would continue trucking as a career. I could be wrong but that seems to be what I was told years ago... and I also remember reading that that is the same time frame when drivers are most likely to become involved in an accident. So it is hard for the old timers to want to waste their time with some one here today and gone tomorrow. And to them, five years driving is squat...The real problem is that a lot of newbies do not show the older guys any respect. I will show you respect until you fail to respect me or prove you are unworthy of it. I have been driving in different positions for fifteen years, I do not profess to know it all I do not even profess to know most of it, I still learn something daily, about the equipment I drive a customer and even my self. I plan on learning some thing every day and even the day I pass from this world I plan on learning my final lesson. Which I plan on passing... It is not just the younger guys coming into the industry it's the older guys who come out of another job and just don't quite have it figured out that they can not drive this big truck like they drove their car to and from work. (their brain thinks Oh how hard can this be? drive from town to town and bump a dock. Pick up another load and go to the next town) Then they find out, no time to stop and see my friend over here and why did I have to sit on that dock so long... so theythink some one is not being fair to them and get upset with another driver 'cuz he tries to help them out and gets told Ya Ya Ya I know I Know... So the next time the older hand see him he just walks the other way, And Yes I am guilty of this. Why do I want to be spit on again, so the newbie hits a fence or a pole or worse yet anoher truck and blames it on no one would help me... IMHO :biggrin_25511:

I couldnt agree more. Ive only been otr for almost four years and have been driving 10. And im prolly still a newbie 2 rjones56 here. But a little criticism goes along way. Veteran drivers have alot to say. You can take it how you want to. Either listen and interpret. Or you can ignore and learn the hard way maybe get hurt along the way. Alot of people have been screwed over that post on this forum. Others have done some really dumb things and deserve to be berated for coming on here and complaining they got fired for getting 4 moving violations in 3 months... lol. BE PATIENT..

Guys we have to start somewhere, I do get those bad looks and comments but mostly the ratio from Vets for Help vs ridicule is usually helpful when asking questions I did my first tandems today while we waited on 2nd teacher and WOW don't be a lead foot :p

Don't feel bad, some of the worst drivers I've ever seen have had experience, lol. Just because they've been doing it a long time, doesn't mean they've been doing it right. I road tested a guy last year that had 9 years in and was terrible. Soon as we started he said " I always take off in 5th or 6th when I'm empty, that's the way your supposed to do it" That was the end of that road test. If your going to haul local or drive dumps do me a favor, learn what the hell a CLUTCHBREAK is!! Every new guy we get goes to tearing out clutch breaks, quit getting in a hurry.

Absolutely, I'll tell you the oilfield of west Texas broke this Maryland girl in hard.

Oh, and by the way, I was never a newbee driver, I've always known it all. (don't take me seriously, it may be bad for your health.):biggrin_2554:

Part of the reason the noobs get hassled is because it seems, these days, that the steering-wheel holder mentality of "Don't try and tell me anything. I already know it all cuz I went to truckin' school" is quite prevalent.

Too add to that thought... I got taught every thing I need to know... what are you trying to do... I had one ask me where I went to school, I explained, I learned to drive on the farm, and relearned while in the service, before there was a thing called a CDL.... so he just thought I was stupid, Oh well... I walked away. :biggrin_25511:
