I drove all over that area right out of a 10 day cdl school and had no problems at all.
Safety first and common sense will protect you.
My first load in that area was grossing 80,000 lbs. hauling a load of baled wool in a dry van. Was driving an old Freightliner with no jake-brake because the company didn't want jake-brakes on the trucks. Didn't even know what a jake-brake is at the time, so safety first and had a safe journey. Don't worry; you'll be fine.Brettj3876 and AlexT Thank this. -
Donner isn't that bad. Lots of flat spots to cool the brakes in between grades. Just don't forget to stop at the brake check area. CHP will pop you if you pass it up and they're laying in wait.jason6541 Thanks this.

Most of the western states are flat. That's why I like driving here. Especially I-40 and I-10 in the south. You can make great time down there.Chinatown Thanks this.

Yea I hit Texas southwest of Amarillo for the first time this week I like their 75 speed limit on the 2 lanes

I have not driven out west in a number of years. But there are really some pretty good mountains there.
I especially like coming out of Oregon into California there is a pretty steep Mountain that comes right down to the state line and right there at the very bottom is a scale house.
Just take your time and remember speed is your enemy. -

No, ramp not needed. Used the "steady pressure" braking method. Probably some old timers on here worked for the same company; MidWestern Distribution out of Ft. Scott, Kansas. The man that owns Prime Inc. was an executive in the company at that time. Guess he left when Leaseway bought the company, then started his own company; Prime Inc.

Leaseway Transportation bought Midwestern Distribution for $20 million dollars, while I worked there. The more senior drivers were assigned a Leaseway truck because Leaseway trucks had power steering and Midwestern trucks did not.motocross25, Oxbow, Milr72 and 1 other person Thank this.
